How much Light?
    #4478708 - 07/31/05 11:20 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

I am planning to grow a few mushrooms in a very tight, small space. Similiar to a closet/in drawer. Damn college regulations don't allow growing them.
I have almost everything figured out except for the fruiting part. Is it possible to have a cooking tray in a big desk drawer for fruiting, and just a light in there, florecent or incadesent? I can't have it out in the open so I have to substitute a light source. Instead of the drawer, I can have a closed box with them inside. Any idea on this?

I am pretty much a newbie but have been reading for a couple of months. One issue that you may run into will be the heat generated from incandecent lights or flourescent ballasts in such a confined space pushing temps a little high for the fruiting stage. My understanding is the light does not need to be intense, just there. Mabe try one or two of the battery powered " tap on" lights and some rechargeable batteries? Just a thought and good luck.

The tap on idea fasing away from the cakes is a good idea, thanks. I've been looking for the invitro grow way and all I can find is it mentioned, but no actual instructions. Can you be more specific on how it works?

Ok, I found a few guides called invitro tek so i assume its the same thing. Here's my plan then. Have about 6-8 jars, done normally up until the white stuff starts to appear. Once the jar is fully covered, I'd shake off extra loose stuff from the jar to make room for growing. Repeat the shake once a week until the shrooms start to grow, and then just let them grow in the jar until the caps release from the stem. Then harvest/dry. The jars would be in a completly closed drawer with a tap-light thing just in there. Maybe 12 hours on, 12 hours off. Am I missing anything?

Don't shake when fully colonized.
Check out this link for low temp lighting.
