found on my balcony
    #4477775 - 07/31/05 04:33 PM (18 years, 7 months ago)

Hey I found these growing out of a planter. The plant in it almost died then came back. I guess this is what I get for feeding my plants a mushroom complex for micro nutes. Any ideas? also there are orange shrooms eating my balcony. I would like to know if they are harmful. the caps have almost no stems when they grow. big colony that will have to be killed if I wan to save my balcony from being eaten

I just did a search for "leucocoprinus birnbaumii" and its nothing like the kind comming out of my planter. it has similar reports of comming out of house planters but mine are not yellow. mine do not have those little bumps on them they are completly smooth. caps are brown stems are white. Ill post a new pic cuz today instead of two there are 8!!!! wow!

here are the pics that i found for "leucocoprinus birnbaumii" and you can see that unless there is some sub species or somehting its not what I have.

Well it could just be a common coprinus species, I've found them in potted plants also along with leucocoprinus birnbaumii. Hard to tell from the pic, it is pretty bright and overexposed.. You should try to make as detailed of a post as possible to avoid confusion, including descriptions and the forum guidelines.

Let me try an be more helpful

Habitat: plant potter. don't know what kind of plant it is. soil is very rich potting soil, liquid algee fertilizer, wood chips at bottom of planter.
Characteristics of the gills: white
Characteristics of the stem: White short (seen dead ones with 3 inch stems)
Characteristics of the cap: normal convex and round. symetrical.
Spore print color: havent seen spores
Color that the mushroom bruises: none that i can tell
Scent of the mushroom: hard to tell smells like my rich potting soil. I crushed on up and it smells a little woody, and like an edible mushroom you would buy for cheap in the store.
Anything else you might find important: Um .... they look tasty? ok seriously I think shrooms are cool no matter what kind they are. i just wish I had some that grew huge.

Oh also I should note that they grow and die at an incredible rate. from about nothing to full growth in 2 days. then they die off. maybe thats from me watering the plant?
