Questionable LC Jar
    #4478312 - 07/31/05 09:18 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

It's been a week since I knock up my first jar of LC. So far I'm not feeling confident by the looks of the jar. The LC looks like the top of a dead dandalion and resembles cotton web mold. Every time I give the jar a light swirl, the cotton like snot mass wiggles. The LC was made using 1 tsp of light malt extract and 1 tsp of dextrose in 2/3 water pc'ed at 15psi for 20 minutes, innoc with 2cc's inside a glove box, and innucbated at 83F. I remembered when I added the light malt extract and dextrose that I didn't mix it with the water too well and their were alot of LME and dextrose particles within the water.

Although I am starting 2 new jars of LC. I made one of LME/Dextrose brewed through a coffee maker and the other of light Karo with vanilla.

The picture of questionable LC jar.

Hey What's up ?

From the looks of your jar, you could be O.K.

The color is probably from the excess LME in your mix.

You use 1 tablespoon each per quart of water. You used a teaspoon, 1/3 tablespoon. A quart is 32 ounces, divided by 3 is roughly 11 ounces. So a teaspoon of each is the amount for 11 ounces of liquid. You used 2/3 cup or 5 1/3 ounces. So you used twice as much. I known as I made this same mistake once, lol. Mine looked just like that. I let it incubate for a long while. As it grew, the color of the water lightened up and so did the mycelium. Had a little black dot that turned out to be a spore clump. You used 2 CC's , a good amount for a 5 ounce LC. I use 2 to do a quart.

Try it out on a test BRF jar, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Good Luck.

Peace,Love,Happiness and Harmony.

Thank you for the feedback as I am about to start my next LC. I wouldn't want to over measure again this time. I am going to go ahead and incubate my current LC jar a little bit longer then innoc a couple jars with it and see what happens.
