Ford F-Series vs Dodge Ram Series

THE BATTLE OF THE PICKUPS
vs
For the record, I don't actually drive a pickup, nor am I really looking for one. I'm a SUV man myself. But given these two choices of pickup trucks between these two companies, I have a hard time deciding what I would rather be driving the most. The impression that I am getting, based on experience, is that the Dodge Rams have the edge in raw power and muscle, whereas the Ford F-series have the upper hand in structural integrity and brute toughness. Aside from that, I think the Dodge Rams look cooler. Lets see what the Shroomery prefers to haul ass with:

rom my experience as a driver and a wrench twister, buy the ford, I've abused the hell out of mine and it still runs strong, I've gone as amny as 40k between oil changes, havent done a trans service yet (113k miles) and have used it for towing trucks, cars and even an 8000lb tractor with an additional 2000lbs of trailer
I've killed 3 dodges, thankfully only one was mine, 2 belonged to employers that did maintain their vehicles, amoung the problems the dodges had were transmissions (3 in mine), heads and the cam, dodge is simply not built sturdy enough, talk to people that own dodges that are a 4-5 years old and check on the recall data for them

I recently bought a truck. I was partial to the Dodges on looks alone until I started researching and test driving trucks. There was no question what it was gonna be once I drove about 50 different trucks...

that's the only thing they are really lacking, is a super-duty.

The only foreign pickup that I've been impressed with lately is the Nissan Titan.
It's more Ford F-ish than anything, though.

So? It had a recall. Big deal... Just shows that GM is on top of their stuff.

Anyone who'd abuse a vehicle as bad as you do, doesn't deserve to be driving. 40,000 miles without an oil change!! And you call yourself a mechanic!!

I've actually owned a couple Tacomas in the past. An '88 (I bought used) and a '97 (I bought new). Both loaded 4X4 models. I loved them. But when I was shopping trucks this year I was really unimpressed with the new Toyota stuff. The quality of the Tacoma seems to have dropped off as they started making the full-size trucks. And the Tundra was not that impressive and way over-priced. Honestly, I'd love to have my '97 Tacoma back!

I'd have to agree with the toyota, i was just visting phriends out in crested butte colorado and all the locals were driving old/new toyotas.
And they would know what to drive, seeing they get lots and lots of snow!

toyota makes a great light duty truck, it's a town truck but even the full sized ones dont feel full sized from the drivers seat, all their trucks sit like their cars

hmmm...that's interesting that you say that.
though, toyotas, especially new, have always been a little on the expensive side.
buying them used takes a little of that bite out of it.
I have a T100, my dad and uncle have Tundras...
in the end, no matter what, you wind up doing it because you know you can trust them.
I just have had too many friends with ford exploders and the dodge damns (why won't it start!?)...I'd never go for it.
Plus the whole notion of buying *American* is completely ludicrous when you consider the Toyota probably consists of more american parts and was definitely assembled largely in america where as the domestics are shopping all that work out to Mexico.
I don't know about you, but China is one thing...Mexico is a WHOOOOOOLE other.

Couldn't agree with you more on that one! I never had to have the "big three" out of some misguided sense of patriotism. But I really am happy with my Ford. It was the best truck I drove, period. Not knocking the Toyotas though, a guy could do a lot worse!

The world's biggest production pick-up truck, The International? CXT, deserves an honorable mention:
It can haul 6 tons.
Check out Ford's concept truck:
Called the "Mighty Tonka".
Aside from pickups and such.. I'd like to bring up one other vehicle.
It's a station wagon.
Ah, I know... I can already hear it: "Ugh.. A station wagon?? Borrrriiing."
But my goodness gracious, this is the first and only station wagon I've ever had strong feelings for.
It is... none other than:
The Magnum
What a beauty.
The pictures don't fully showcase the car's "Magnum-like" looks.
That's the only station wagon in the world that I wouldn't mind driving, though.

I wouldnt be too confident in Toyotas future they seem to be heading in the wrong direction atleast as far as plant locations go.Tacomas will be made in Mexico soon, weather the quality stays the same we wont know for years.

Based on what specific criteria were they evaluated as "Number 2"? Quality? Gross profits? Number of vehicles sold under one fiduciary year? I can think of other automobile companies that would blow Toyota out of the water as far as quality, while not even being the tip-top company in the automobile industry.
And what is Number 1?
Sources, please.
