is WBS suppose to germinate in jars?

Okai, i knocked up a few WBS jars quickly just for a test as this is my first attempt.
I soaked the WBS for bout 12 hours, then i let drain for bout 45 mins.
I didnt sterelize as i just wanted to do a test run first.
I filled 3 jars with the WBS bout 3/4 full and cut off some live myc from some pf cakes that have been growing shrooms in a fruiting chamber and put some myc into each of the jars with the WBS.
Its been a few days and the only growth ive seen is the seeds have started to germinate, most of the seeds have sprouted, is this right?
And i thought with grain to grain you should be able to see some growth within a couple of days.
Im more worried about the sprouted seeds but.

I hate to bust your bubble, my friend, but, if you didn't sterilize those WBS grains, you are in for a rude awakening, lol. Your jars are getting ready to become the most colorful contamed jars yet. Like a rainbow--GREEN-RED-PURPLE-BROWN-YELLOW And any other contam color you can imagine, lol.
You have to sterilize them-if not-you will fail.
Good luck though!
Maybe this thread should be moved to a more "fitting" forum---> "Contaminates"
Keep us posted,lol.

And what were you testing. To see if you could actually fill a jar 3/4 full ?
"Its been a few days and the only growth ive seen is the seeds have started to germinate, most of the seeds have sprouted, is this right?"
Don't worry, you'll see plenty of bacterial growth soon enough.
This really was a waste of time, supplies and effort.

its not a "test run" if you didnt sterilize your jars... maybe a test run to see how to fill jars with WBS but nothing more. sterilize man!!!

It was a test to see if my new incubator chamber is setup right.
I still dont have enough money to buy a pc, here in oz there like 200 bucks new, and finding second hand ones are bloody hard as we dont have second hand stores everywhere like in america so im still working on getting a pc.
But for now is pasteruzing wbs good enough, eg ill soak in water for 12 hours, bake in oven for a bit, incubate over night, bake in over again and repeat that once or twice more then inoculate it?

Oven wouldn't work bud lol.
Well it'd work, but with the worst contam rate ever, as well as MANY complications...
Pc is defiently the way to go.
I hope you get one soon

I would stick with BRF until you can afford a pressure cooker. I can't think of any way to do grains without one. Sorry man =(

A thick healthy LC, inoculated into well pasturized h/poo / verm mix in quart jars - with filtered lids like wbs/grain jars (or filter/patch bags), incubated until colonized, then spawned at a 20++ % rate into more pasturized h/poo.... in trays, then incubate the trays until colonized, add casing mix & fruit out - is one way of going BIG BULK - without a PC.
EDIT----- I suppose someone is going to ask - "how do you make an LC?..without a PC?"
Light dry malt, dry dextrose combined into a 3% solution in distilled water, boiled hard on the stove in a pot with a lid, pour though coffee filters, into microwave pre-heated (hot) pint or quart glass jars, with plastic lids - with double rubber tube & polyfil wad filters, nuke until it boils, repeat 3 times, tighten lids, allow to cool to room temperatures, then inoculate w/spore syringe.

Which do you mean?
LC to h/poo, or LC without a PC?
I did a quite a few LC's to h/poo jars (for spawn)without losing any.
I did 8 individual pints jars of LC without a PC - as a test & lost 1.
But, anyones results will vary, as methods differ.

i know what you mean, when i first started looking i was nearly duped into buying shit from online sites that blew my budget apart but after lots of browsing (by foot)i got a pc from kmart 2 years ago for 70 bucks and since then i've noticed them in lots of hardware stores for around the same price, also try army surplus and camping shops another couple of things that were hard to get back then were mason jars and rubbermaid tubs that were airtight but you can get these fucking beautiful airtight rubbermades-$15 and jars-$1-3 at Kmart right now

Do not ignore the advice of people here, YOU MUST STERILIZE (not pasteruize) bird seed. Follow what agar said, no PC needed.
