Well his movies certainly arent for everybody. He has the actors sort of suppress their feelings, and rely more on subtle emotional queues and dialogue. There are points though where he lets the actors let out more emotion, such as when Bill Murray sees the shark at the end, and starts to cry. But the thing to remember is that these are comedies, and he has them act this way to emphasize a lot of things about the comedic nature of things, and the basic idea of things being funny. I could go into this more if anyone wants. But certainly it wont appeal to everyone, and I think good art is supposed to be controversial in that way. As far as David lynch, I must say I dont really think he is that great. Ha, a lot of friends I have, including one going to NYU film school, thinks I am a fool for this. But I really just cant get into his movies, everything he does I can see in other earlier directors who pulled it off better.
