Vancouver police armed with a search warrant have raided a pot-seed store run by Marc Emery, the head of the B.C. Marijuana Party.

The warrant was executed on behalf of the U.S. government.
Emery himself was taken into custody in Halifax.
The document alleges a conspiracy to produce marijuana and distribute seeds as well as alleging money laundering.
"Their activities resulted in the growing of tens of thousands of marijuana plants in America. He was involved, allegedly, in an illegal distribution of marijuana in this country [U.S.]. He is a drug dealer," assistant U.S. attorney Jeff Sullivan told CBC News.
Vancouver police officers carried out the raid. As a result Emery is out of business.
Chris Bennett, who works for Emery and was at his office when it was raided, says he's angry an American warrant was executed by a Canadian police force.
"They're taking him down to face charges in the United States of America. And sentences in America for this kind of thing is so much harsher that one would face in Canada," said Bennett.
U.S. officials allege that Emery has sold as much as $3 million in seeds.
American officials are seeking Emery's extradition, which could take six months to a year

Please follow closely as the details are unravelled. Anyone who smokes weed should feel this one, as most of the funding for Marijuana activism across Canada and the US came from this seed selling outlet.
This is causing a HUGE stir over here in BC, and has received national coverage. It will likely be the fuel to feed the fire to legalise it!

Sucks for him. If he gets charged and convicted in the U.S., I can only imagine the penalty that'll be imposed on him.

He faces a minimum 10 years, maximum life in an american, federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison. In Canada he would be hard-pressed to be convicted.
I can't even express my outrage. The fact that Vancouver cops were working on this for 18 months on behalfd of the DEA is disgusting. I feel betrayed.

i just came from atlantic hempfest
i was hoping to meet him (and get some seeds)
he was there for a little while but he left to go to the sora and they caught him. supposedly his buissness also got raided,
the rCMP were all inside the festival too driving cars slowly around the tent area and patroling stage areas.
it as pretty scary. we ere in the car talking about all the schedules we had to get caught with.
the cops were even waiting outside when the day-poarty closed and the day-passes expired to catch people. and catch people they did.
we waied an hour passed that and go out ok.
it was a big drug trap! Rick Reimer was there. far as i know he still is.
i greeted him, but i diddnt kno till later who he was. diddn't even know he was important untill my friend asked me later about what rick reimer was like, i as like who?
oh he hippie guy? that guy was super mellow.
we did some bartering around and got some great deals on festival accessories. then the paranoia set in when the cops sttarted circling all he time.
mark emry was busted in lawrencetown annapolis co. and taken to the burnside lock up near halifax.
i was all "what the piss is this weak ass shit?"
it was a coordinated effort beteen the canadian RCMP and the american DEA
tho they diddn't really mention much about it at the festival. you'ed think a bigger stink would have arizen.
by the spook presence ere all pretty sure this is meant to be a message.
that it's not safe. that were not welcome to do this and organize these events... that the canadian police are working with the DEA to get canadians extridited to the US, which apparently is what they intend to do to marc emry

It was the MLAT, not the Patriot Act. Canadians should be outraged their government aided the US in such a petty criminal offense. You'd think he's some kind of cocaine baron, machine gunning down people and killing other fellow "drug lords."
They want to try him for dealing drugs under US law, which is bullshit. It was a great way for the DEA to get him out of their hair since he was providing support to jailed drug users and in some cases, paying the legal fees. God forbid a drug user can afford something other than cheap court-appointed lawyers. You don't have this guy sending seeds to the US or giving financial support to jailed potheads anymore. It's a win-win for the DEA all-around.

Seeing as how it seems most regular protests and rallies outside downtown government buildings and whatnot rarely seem to have much if any effect on political decisions anyway, personally I can't seem to think of another means of delivering our message right now that might make more of an impact than forcing a closing of the boarders for a day or two, atleast at one of it's main routes. As is stated in that thread I think it would be crutial that pot activists and anti-globalist/american policy demonstrators from both sides of the boarder would all have to come together for a comon cause on this one.
I mean, at this point, what other options do we as the people have? Although this didn't really come as a complete surprise to me as the DEA has been publicly keeping an eye on certain things in Canada for some time, I am hoping the fact that this happened to Emery and not just some lone secretive seed merchant will help spark some serious national debate about this.

Exactly. Something has to be interupted, something that is crucial to the interaction between the two countries, in order to get proper attention. Simple protests don't really work, they don't really get covered, its just background noise. Something needs to be done that isn't violent, but yet does disrupt some process that will cause attention as a result.
His arrest is a well-calculated maneuver. The American government is testing a lot of variables out and analyzing how to respond, how to proceed, how people and government's will react. It's a test of what power they have, and its going to be happening in a lot of different areas, to different degrees. Or something.
