For the experienced growers, this would make a great gift for someone looking to start out and its a great price (thanks Mike). I'll probably be picking up one of these for my girlfriend.

great price. it's refreshing to see people not trying to rob others off such kits.
just an idea...yesterday i picked up a digital thermometer w/RH meter for $6.47(before tax) at wal-mart(hardware dept.). Might want to replace the thermometer and add the difference in price...it would make it that much more complete!

those cheapo rh meters only read up to around 90% humidity, not useful for our needs...

well i guess i'll have to rely on the perlite keeping the rh correct...i am only in the colonizing stage so i wouldn't know of it's inadequacies yet.
my instructions say that it reads the rh to 95%, anything higher and it will still read 95%...oh well.
what about the non-digital hygrometers? you know, the ones that have the little hand like a clock. are those as reliable as a high dollar digital?
here is a combo thermometers/hygrometers for 99 cents each. shipping is only $6.95. even if you order 10 the total is only $16.85. IOW they don't charge a shipping fee per item, just a flat rate per order.

hygrometers that read between 95 and 100% humidity usually cost upwards of $100...
the right amount of perlite in an enclosed space will keep the air at close to 100% humidity, no measuring is required

my setup is complete for what i need. i was not desiring advice for me, i was trying to help you find an accurate and cheap combo.
from what i've seen there are many experienced growers here who have found such accurate digital thermometers/hygrometers in the $20 range that have no problem reading up to 100% humidity. i'm sure one could find much more expensive ones if one desired.
I just thought that if a non-digital hygrometer is as accurate as an $20 digital one, then for 99 cents it would add more value to your kit without extra cost.
like i said, just trying to help....if your not interested in help, or adding value to your kit without extra cost....then disregard.
either way, you still offer a good kit at a great price and my hats off to you.

Hey, I'm a beginner in a serious way, this looks like a great deal. If I'm planning to get B+ Spores from Ralphster, do I want prints or syringes, and how many do I need? Is there a strain aside from B+ that would work better with this set up?
Thanks...Hope this question isn't one of those I should have been able to figure out on my own,

The kit has everything you need (except spores) to colonate and do the casing, right? What exactly is the "perlite humidification unit" and is the geolite what you use as the top layer on the casing? Sorry to sound like a newb, I forgot all the stuff I used to know about growing. I made this account 4 years ago and I never started growing, but my interest has been recently renewed. I am trying to get to 10 posts too so I can see the grow logs.

no casing is involved with the PF tek...
the perlite humidification unit is a thing i came up with, I'll be posting later today how to make one... basically its a length of nylon stocking filled with perlite... you put it in water at the bottom of the terrarium and it humidifies the space...
