so i just went and bought a chipper/shredder. 300$ at the pawn shop. processed 3 large bales of straw in approx. 75 min. looks like it can handle a 3 inch stick as well. good for many of the gourmet mushrooms. i will post pics tommorrow of my piles for advice

well guys and girls, i mixed my piles with more straw and i am very worried. i tihnk that i fucked my piles up bad. here's the deal. my piles had been cooking for nearly two weeks. thats almost half the sheduled time for the long composting process in TMC. the straw i added was chopped, however, not given time to prewet or windrow. that means it will be another few days before that stuff starts cooking. the starting materials will be finished with their compost run in about another 12 days, but the straw i just added will only be halfway through the compost schedule. i think i am gonna scrap these piles and use them for garden compost.

Is the point of the compost to not pasteurize or are you planning on pasteurizing? If your going to pasteurize the stuff I dont see why it wouldnt work, I mean I use straw and poo that havnt been composted at all with success. If the composting process is supposed to pasteurize it for you then I'm not sure..

yeah i was talking about compost not pasteurized poo/straw. at the end of the pile it has been near pasteurization temp for days. but have you grown blazei on concomposted straw/poo, as that was what this was intended for
