Contam or myc waste?
    #4466261 - 07/28/05 10:42 PM (11 years, 4 months ago)

First time grow, using BFR inculated July 4. They have had these discolored spots for about 2 weeks now. They do not seem to be spreading. Does it look like myc waste?

Update, the spots are still the same and still do not seem to be spreading. The myc is still Colonizing. Since I have started a new batch with 1/2 pint jars (unable to find them the first time), and are being kept away from these jars. I decided to open one of these jars up. As soon at the cake came out there was a very distinct mushroom smell. So I don?t think its bacteria. I then cut the cake up and could not see any thing from the spots showing they spread inside the cake. Any other ideas or information would be much appreciated. I still have 4 jars with these spots.

Usually when incubation temps are in the mid to high 80's, the piss will turn that color. Just watch out for super high inc temps. 85 is the max IMO.

I'd let'em ride and then birth or go invitro. There's no since in tossing out something if you're not sure. You'll surely know what it is soon enough!

My inc temp is right around 84 85 Its possible they get a little hotter during the day while I am at work. They still look the same. Only part left to colonize now are the bottoms.

That's what it is. Reduce the temperatures. That is metabolyte. You shouldn't incubate over 80. Find a cooler place. I use a simple bookshelf in an air conditioned room. Jars colonize very well at 75F.

I know know man... ive run a test for cubensis.. room temp vs. 80+ (84-87) and the jar at room temp colonized in 3 weeks, and the one in 86 colonized in only 1 1/2 - 2 weeks.

Yeah, but warm incubation temperatures favor contaminates also. Room temp is fine for colonization.
