My laziness exceeds me once again
    #4465673 - 07/28/05 08:12 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

I'm trying to work out,
but I figure i'll start out slow again,
then work my way up. I was only able to do 25 push ups :mad2:

Now I have a small gut, which used to be fairly cut.
10 of those pushups were inclined though, they are kinda tough. But still :mad2:

Ha yea its tough at first. I was going to work out today, but ended up making some taquitos and watching the woody allen movies 'love and death' and 'bananas.' Working out is hard at first, but gets a lot easier, and actually begins to feel good during and after excersize.

"do some duumbell curls

Precisely why anyone would quit working out in a hurry!

I'm no expert, but as someone who works out I don't think that would do any real good.

My advice for pushups: Do them on a pair of dumbbells (or some kind of elevated cylinder you can wrap your hand around). Working with your wrists are weird angles sucks.

Breath deeply and calm yourself completely before starting. Don't think. Just drop to the ground and start pumping them out. Focus on your form completely. Accept the pain, don't try to work harder or stop because of it. Just focus on your form.

Do as many as possible. That doesn't mean "ow this really hurts I'm done". That means go until you can't possibly do any more. Do 3 sets with a good rest inbetween. However much time you need to regain your composure, while still pushing yourself. Keeping the pump going is good.

Elevated pushups are good. They work your upper chest. 3 sets of flat and 3 sets of elevated would do you well. This is the only way you're really going to get anywhere, imo. If you're not sweating, you're not doing it right.

A good preworkout meal includes protein and carbs and optionally fat. Wait an hour or so before working out. After working out eat more protein as well as some fruit or milk to get your glucose insulin levels up, which speeds nutrients to your muscles.

Maybe you're not trying to get so technical about things, but my original point still stands. 25 pushups is weak.

P.S. Negatives are the key to good form. If you drop down very slow (so you could stop at any point) and perfectly symmetrical, you will go up the same way. Always do slow negatives. The upward movement can be done as fast as you want. Explosive power is a good thing.

P.S.S. A good meal can be anything from a peanutbutter sandwhich to potatoes and steak. Just make sure it's natural and healthy.

Yea, I hear ya. I agree 25 pushups is weak, but I don't mean to make myself sound weak. The thing is that, I didn't try hard enough.

yea, I didn't even get near working up a sweat. I plan on getting serious (again) soon.

Just keep railing against the edge of physical exhaustion, man.  your energy
will pick up if your body knows what's good for it
