Only cakes... martha or pmp?
    #4462559 - 07/28/05 02:11 AM (11 years, 4 months ago)

I have done two grows this year, both in my PMP. I must say that I was disappointed with the pmp... weak flushes. I gave a few of the cakes (from the same batch) to my friend who used nothing but perlite (fanned twice a day) and his flushes blew mine away. I had two flushes total, he had 4. He got more off of one than I did on two.

My PMP used lava rocks instead of geolite (couldnt find it anywhere) and the RH was always 95%+, but I just had week flushes for some reason. The temp was 74 degrees for us both.

So instead of going with the lava rocks again, I setup a martha and it honestly seems like overkill for me. I have four racks in there, but only use one (and I don't have plans to ever use more than that). I just got carried away with my little project. Plus, the coolmist is ten times louder than the air pump I have and it keeps me awake at night.

I am thinking maybe simple is better? Should I just scrap everything and go with some perlite? I am just looking for some advice. I don't plan to ever have more than 20-30 cakes at a time and doubt I will be doing casings any time soon.

I saw a post a few days ago where HippieChick posted pics of an old rubbermaid+perlite setup she had and the cakes he showed kicked my PMP cake asses.

Very easy set up. Sounds like you already have most of what you need.

I got great results with my cakes in there,

Good Luck.

Hey hippie, I put one of these together tonight, but I can't figure out how you got the wire to stay above the perlite. I put some long screws on the bottom like you did, but the weight of the cakes makes it sink down onto the perlite.

The problem would have been fixed with a larger air pump.

Those 3 supports are all thread. A long solid piece of threaded metal. Ran 3 pieces all the way across the bottom. Then put two 3" bolts thru the ends.

Use 2 pieces of screen that overlap quite a bit and secure them together with zip ties or something. This will add strength to the wire screen.
