Using RICE MILK to grow mycelium/mushrooms??????

I was at the store the other day and picked up this drink called "Rice Dream". It's "Rich In Calcium, Lactose Free".
As I was drinking it, I wondered, and rememberd the wonderful world of mycelium and how it likes brown rice.
I decided to look at the ingredients: "Filtered water, brown rice (partially milled), expeller pressed high oleic safflower oil, vanilla [note: this was the 'Vanilla Enriched' kind], sea salt, vitamins and minerals (calcium, vitamin A, vitamin B12, vitamin D2)."
After seeing this I wondered if there was a possible way to use this to cultivate mycelium. It has the ingredients for it, and perhaps may be a very good jump start for the whole process.
Your comments please, some experienced shroom masters!

That's a good question, exactly what im trying to find out :)
Im thinking I can come up with a scheme to use it somehow, but I am hoping someone like Anno can enlighten us.
Perhaps there can be a good tek behind this.
My most recent experiement is using water and yeast malt extract, using the 96% water/4% extract. Measured out. It's been 3 days since spore injection. VERY interesting results so far. My friend plans to do some casing :)

To me, the stuff seems pretty organic and natural. It's considered a health nut drink. And is like soy milk, so I would imagine it to be pretty healthy/organic/natural :)
Which gets me thinking that maybe fungus can thrive in it if properly used.

Pavlov, seems to me that the thread you posted is about dunking cakes in regular milk.
However, this is Rice Milk, made with brown rice and such. And I think it'd be a very different thing from regular milk.
However, dunking a cake in this RICE MILK, MAY be an interesting idea. As it'd bring both fresh [clean] water and vitamins and brown rice stuff into the cake :)

Hey, how about using this stuff in conjunction with the "inner reservoir" tek: when you have moist verm in the middle of the cake so that you can inject water to rehydrate it after a flush. So why not use the rice milk it would add moisture and loads of nutrients for the cake................
one thing that worries me though, this drink is made for human consumption, so the amount of vitamins/minerals they add to it could be too much and may harm the cake...... but i suppose you'd only find out after using it............
Also how about MAKING a similar drink yourself, this would eliminate any possibility of chemicals/too many vitamins and preservatives. You could just soak some brown rice flour, and some glucose powder in water then nuke it in the microwave for a little while, then inject it intob the reservoir in the cake!

What effect do you think RICE MILK will have on cakes/casings when you mist them when they are dry?

Hey Pavlov,
Yeah previously I had not looked all the way down.
However this time I did, and it's kinda hard to tell, but it seems that dunking in original rice dream IS a good idea?
Now, how would I do this? Put it in a jar overnight in the fridge? Then re-birth and put in terranium?
thanks

I thought about this awhile back when dunking in milk was getting so much attention.
but i have never had any cakes top try it on. I have never seen the rice drink you are talking about, but Horchata as it is called in spanish is a tasty drink but my family usually just makes our own but with white rice. But brown rice should be more nutricious. Just soak rice in water for a few days till it becomes cloudy, you may want to boil it to kill contams also.

Well dont know if anyone cares but ill post the recipe on how to make horchata its perrty simple so hear goes:
Mix 1 part rice with about 3 parts water (by volume) in a large pitcher or bowl, let soal at least 12 hrs till the rice has fully expanded. Now boil this in a pot, for a few mins to extract more goodies from the rice( also you can add cimmion if you like). now throw this in a blender, dosent need to be a puree just chop up good. finaly strian the rice/water, and add about one part Halfandhalf or milk for 3 parts water. your done just mix in suger if you want to drink it, Yummy good for fungus and people alike

im thinking about the same thing id think in theory it would work but rice milk is usually made with white rice thus i would try making your own brown rice milk.
Im also curious about dunking whether or not its necessarily needed or invites bacteria

I prefer BRF CAKES or rye berries over any other spawn medium. Cakes are fun but slower and rye berries are faster but you must spawn them to bulk monotubs or trays, which isn't a bad thing, I just prefer my pf tek cakes-Shroomarican
