This might be a tiny bit off topic but I think it comes into play with the Spirtual part. Ok first off, how many of you have seen the movie The Abyss? I was watching it on tv and saw from when the water came into the base and everyone saw it. But that was enough to make me think.
*Pre-Note* Ok most of us know that DMT is naturally occuring in our bodies right? I read this from DMT: The Spirit Molecule. The pineal gland in our brain is what causes pychedelic experiences in our life. Wheter it be from natural occurances (birth, death, near death experience) or from drugs. Now since the drugs need to get into the pineal gland to have effect the pineal gland has a defense system (because we all have DMT and if it didnt defend itself it would result in psychosis) Under extreme levels of stress this defense system is over powerd by DMT which is beleived to cause spirtual experiences. Only extreme levels of stress though.. normal day to day stress is obviously not enough.. where as a near death experience would be.
Now with that said I can get onto my point.
In the movie when he puts on the suit to go disarm the warhead he is falling to a very low depth. At the time it was the lowest suit dive ever (at least it said so in the movie) and one of the other members of the team mentiond that that much pressure would cause hallucinations, euphoria, etc. When he gets down to the bomb and disarms it he notices he only has 5 minutes of air left so figures trying to get back is useless.. Now during this time an alien comes and visits him. The alien takes him into the ship and shows him a few things about man kind. This is obviously enough to cause a life-changing experience for him. The alien and the ship is all similarities to a DMT experience. Do you think that James Cameron had any idea or do you think it was just coinsidence? I mean the ending of the movie disproves my theory of it being a DMT experience but its such close similarities that I couldnt help but think about it and just ask for someone elses opinion on this board.

I know the movie, the first time I saw it was on laser disc, I've seen it a few times since. Unfortunately I don't have any first hand DMT knowledge... damn the man... but from what I've heard, it sounds like it could be similar. I don't know if that's what the author had in mind (it might have been). I've also read the book, unfortunately I can't remember much about it. If only I could get more DMT than my pineal gland is currently pumping out. lol ;)

Yeah dude I see the similarity there too. Right now I'm on the last chapters of that book (btw, to everybody who hasn't read it- it is very worthwhile to read). Your linking between The Abyss' climax and natural DMT release/experience makes sense. I dunno maybe Cameron knew about this stuff....it would be quite an odd coincidence if he didn't...Btw O_T, you act as if the DMT visions are not "real"(>>I mean the ending of the movie disproves my theory of it being a DMT experience...<<), but they are probably just as real as what you see around you now, just perceived on/from a different level.

Perhaps thats the case. But more likely he didn't have much knowledge of DMT. He was probably trying to mix hallucination with reality, probably not trying to intentionally make it look like a DMT experience, but just somewhat hallucinatory.
Yes thats a good book. I've read it a couple of times.
