I just rebuilt a guitar (pics)

This guitar was given to me by my grandfather many years ago. I always wanted to refurbish it, and when I started to I accidentally broke the body in two (by chiseling). So, for many years all I had was this body that was in half. The neck was so beat up that I just threw it away.
I finally got around to glueing the body back together, routing the body out as I wanted it, sanding it down, cutting out a new pickguard, oiling the body, ordering all of the various parts I needed to make the guitar as I wanted it (new neck, new pickups, new bridge, etc...), and putting the work into it to get it done. I still need to do a few things to it, but it is pretty much done.
This was a labor of love. I probably spent 10 hours routing and sanding the body and about another 10 hours making the pickguard nice (all I had was a dremel tool and sandpaper to shape the pickguard). I put a lot of hours in this thing.
By the way, the pickups in it are:
Bridge - Dimarzio Super Distortion Neck - Dimarzio PAF Pro
P.S. Don't mind the non-existent G-String.

It was that way when I got it. My grandfather made this guitar over forty years ago (believe it or not) from scratch. He even made the old neck that was on it (he was a machinist).
P.S. The wood is all bird's-eye maple.

Cool I hope you hang on to it for a long long time. I had a guitar something like that. A old ass Ibeneze double cut away. Looked very much like that one you have there. Anyway I don't have it anymore. I also put a lot of hours and love into it. I traded it for some weed in 86'.............. MISTAKE
Looks good............. Does it play well ?

Well, the G string broke on it as I went about tuning it, so I haven't been able to give it a real workout. But, from what I did hear it sounds very good.

You don't think the red is too much? I had someone say that the red was too bright and in your face when contrasted with the wood. I think it looks decent though. I could always get another pick guard and cut it out if I wanted a new color though.

a black pick guard might look a little more classy against the grain. looks great like it is though!

I like the red against the natural body. I've always been partial to that combination. Very nice job.

i think it would look awesome if you made a pickguard out of burled walnut. just get a nice vaneer and glue it to a thin black piece of plastic so a router wont destroy it. maybe something like these:

Hm..those are some interesting colors. I might consider changing the pickguard in the future, but not now. I spent hours and hours shaping that square piece of plastic to fit my guitar perfectly. Maybe next year or something..
