Lighting? is this true

Hey i dont know what kind of lighting to use. I need something that does not make any or little heat. I only have 4in. above my chambers. Is this true, 2.) Do shrooms need light to grow, and if so, how much?
Answer) Mushrooms do not use photosynthesis to grow like most other plants do. In nature, light is only used by the plant (mycelium) to let it know it has reached the surface of the soil (or dung) so that it can produce shrooms. If it were not for this fact, the shrooms would grow underground instead of on the surface. As long as the plant gets just a few seconds of light each day it is sufficient, and since you will be watering it on a daily basis it will get it's required light at that time. Light doesn't hurt or help the mycelium itself, so there is really no worry about too little or too much light.

you answered your own question. after birthing, light is only used as an indicator to the mushrooms to start pinning. mushrooms will grow toward the light but its really not getting any nutrients from it. just nature's good ole' alarm clock.

Yes, there is a worry about light. To little and you most often get skinny weak stems. Light tells mycelium which direction the shrooms should grow towards. As - light - means open air - to release spores into. Under optimal conditions - nature gives light on about a 12/12 basis. You should try to do something like that - yourself.

hey if this is true then why do people do 12 -10 hr a day? Also why do their yields turn out different with different amount of light?

This solves my light question! Time to buy a cheap lighting source :-)

Light duration and intensity definitely make a difference in pin counts/yield, It is most imporant during the pinning stages. I have found mushrooms grow more during the dark cycle but that light cycle keeps them stretching tall. I myself have learned to mimic nature whenever possible and to always improve upon it whenever possible.

I used a closet once setup a nice little lab trouble was all the shit that was in there ended up in the bedroom that pissed off the GF then I ended up dumping her as she was getting in the way of my sterile culture technique! Ya I got priorities too!!!"
