Where are my fellow magicians?
    #4455374 - 07/26/05 02:11 PM (11 years, 4 months ago)

Anyone into the practice of magick and occultism? I have been reading a lot of Aleister Crowley moreso in the last year than ever as well as put a lot more detication into learning and practicing magick as an art. I have gotten a lot of benefits from such practices and readings. I am now getting to know my way around the enochian language.

If we were to get in a tub together, you on my lap, I would be able, to put my thumb up your ass, then show you both of my thumbs, saying "tryll tryll" I belive that's magick!

I used to do the banishing ritual of the pentagram and the circulation of bodily light every day, with great results. Then I discovered the Mer-Ka-Ba meditation. Now I only do that, and a little bit of eastern style 'zen' meditation in the evening. But I still have great respect and interest for gematria and jewish numerology.

 Magick to me is very similar to many types of spiritual work on the self. Like religion there is a lot of trappings. At some stage I think this is helpfull but can be dropped as only props in another stage.

It is a valid path for spiritual growth.

I have read some about magick. Never really tried any tho.

I believe that some people have a natural tendency to "set things in motion" better than others. I know that my wife is very good at this, with out having read anything about how to focus your energy.

I've studied Occultism and Aleister Crowley, but after much looking into it, sights of others and subjective experiences concluded that it was created entirely within the own person's reality. I seriously doubt you can influence someone else's reality with magic anymore than you could do so by meditating or dropping a few hits of acid.

Or, to it another way, I don't believe in it as any tool to the external world. However, for adding more energy and exploration into your own world, even if simply by the placebo effect Occultism has helped some.

I also used to believe that it was all in the eye of the observer. If you believe that you have set a thing in motion, you can convince your self that you did.

Until I was on the receiving end of some negative energy from my wife.

I can count at least three times that I experienced MASSIVE amounts of pain shortly after pissing her off.

I didn't put the pain and her anger together until several weeks/months later.

in one sense, for magic to be real, for me to see you turn into an alligator (for example), i think everyone has to be immersed in it i think, so it exists as a social construction

when your associative mind stops making new connections - reaches a block, as it were, the unusual sets of connections in Tarot (aleister commissioned his own set of tarot too) or astrology etc. provide a kind of rebirth.

at least the new sets of associations can be used - majickly - to counter the inertia of the old set of associations, and the person can move forward a little less burdened by their own baggage for a while.

studing anything radically different from your norm can do this, tarot is especially good as it addresses the whole world and gives some traction in every direction.

(BTW aleister crowley's tarot deck is exciting but kind of hollywood-ish - I guess it was the zeitgeist)

I read Crowley's stuff. I was born on his birthday - Oct 12th. I met the person who has all his stuff and head of the GD in LA. I might have benefitted from further contact. If you really want to study Magick as Crowley did then I recommend you search out the Golden Dawn in Los Angeles. I believe that it's the only real arm of the occult lodges that actually has a real lineage as all the various OTO lodges have split from the OTO of Crowley, as any fool who feels like it can say they have crossed the Abyss and claim 8=3 Magister status.

Most people have no pure values or real desire for upliftment of themselves - of the world, so they turn to the OTO to have a big orgy and that's where that organization remains - a big orgy. That's all fine if that's what you want magick for. It does solve those sorts of problems.

If you wish to learn to work with the elements - gross and subtle, to learn how to heal oneself and the environment, ie., be a white magician then you need to work with BOTA or the original Golden Dawn. That's it. There are no other actual lineages that one can readily find.

I recommend that you use caution and don't believe the people you meet who are occultists until you have studied them in full. In Magick as in any other system, the integrity of the magickian will speak loads about the integrity of their Magick.

I and my partner use the Tarot often and with great results. We find Crowleys deck to be the best for our purposes. I often use the deck when comming down from a psychedelic experience. Very powerfull readings can be had at this time, because IMO the mind is in a more open state, and associations and connections are more easily seen. :mushroom2:
