Ummmm....out is the temperature OUTSIDE of the dome...in is the temperature INSIDE the dome...

Odds are your thermometer came with a wire that has a little piece of black plastic on it. I'm assuming that you thought that this was the part that reads the temperature, well you're not completely wrong there, that's the temperature for the "out" the temperature for the "in" should be read through the actual thermometer itself. Put each part under a heatlamp and see how the temperature reading is effected on those different settings just to make sure you got it the right way around, I wondered the same thing when Ibought one for my reptiles

Now that I think about it, I think I got the "out" and "in" mixed up, but yeah, now that you know generaly what it is, you'll figure it out.

I thought you got a mycodome actually with the thermometer...if you just bought the thermometer, then "Out" is the temp the probe reads, and "In" is the temp the device reads. So the display is where "In" is and "Out" is where you put the probe. It would be best to keep the probe in the dome, and the device out (to keep it safe from humidity), but that would make "Out" the mycodome temp (where the probe is) and "In" the temp outside the mycodome where the device is displaying.
