poo brew
    #4454813 - 07/26/05 11:02 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Tennesse Stud rules but I wanted to pasteurize my own. I got a turkey cooker, threw some horse poo from a nearby farm into a pilow case and cooked it for an hour around 170 degrees. Then I hung it to dry and have yet to check on the sack o' shit.

The poo was dry pretty much but from the stable and not from the field. Any problems?

I also mixed it half half for the first bag with chopped straw, (run through a mulcher. worked awesome!)

Is this poo cool? As long as I mix it with some lime for a buffer and fluff it out with some verm. Ya think it is still good?

Also, I saved some of the "poo brew". Any practical application for other experiments?

Thanks all.

from the stable you may want to allow it time to properly leach out the urine

As said, unine may be a problem, did the poo smell like anything other then dirt when you borke it open or when you soaked it or drained it? If your worried, I would first spawn one casing, a smaller one, then in 24 hours if growth into the poo looks like its happening at all, you can hope a little more that they'll make it.

Poo water can be used to soak and simmer grains in, or used in a liquid culture. Problem is the darkness of it..

It actually smelled pretty damn good. Like a horse of course.
I will try a mini case after it dries out.
Something I forgot to ask was if I took the hot shit and spread it over a screen door frame like I do with the rye grain, will it be o.k. out in the open like that until it is cool. That way it could all be done in one shot.
Some litmus will tell if it is too acidic right?
Thanks again, and much respect for your guys' work and postings. Been lurking for awhile so I appreciate the feed back from those who know.

oh yeah, would you simmer the brew with your grain in like a 1:1 poo brew to water? peace

good way to test it. put a clummp in a half int jar full of water. Wait 24 hours and smell. Does it smell earthy or like somehting realeased from the bowels of satan. I think you can guess which one you dont want. ANd if it smells that bad leech and dry. 2-3 times and check again. Ferminting poo can smell up your house bad

If it wasn't weathered, or well leached - you may have problems.

ALSO:

The scent of steamy hot poo can draw GNATS from 10 miles away.

Once it's cooled to the ambiant temp, they lay eggs in it - if they can get to it. :mad2:

Gnat eggs & larva are not a good thing to have in a colonizing substrate, as larva eats myc, larva hatches into more gnats & repeats the cycle.

I would suggest you use a plastic garbage bag & hang the pillow case in it & use a cord (or something) to secure the bag neck, so gnats cannot gain entry to the h/poo.

Once cool to the touch, squueze out exccess moisture - by hand.

Actually that fact is unfounded.

As another hobby I have been investigating the ability of the common "gnat" to smell cooking poo and have determined, as found in numorous publications, that the field gnat can only smell poop up to 4.8 miles away.

You are way off base.

As far as getting to it, another hobby of mine is the now patented anti-gnat weapon system. It is a laser guided weapon system that tracks and destroys airborn gnat infectors from up to 5 miles away.

your move Shakespear.

Sorry dude. Kill this post before someone gets hurt.
