Jon Stewart - Activism
    #4452745 - 07/25/05 11:38 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

I was watching the interview tonight between Jon Stewart and Sen. Santorum. Santorum kept stating he felt government needed to further family values and Stewart kept arguing that homosexuals could be just as good parents and heterosexual couples.

The show got me thinking about Libertarian ideals and the debates that often happen in this forum. Many people in this forum realize government is here to secure our rights not force a particular viewpoint.

What would some of the more articulate posters in this forum like Paradigm and Phred think about creating a well written, well researched letter on the purposes of government as created and defined by the founding fathers? This letter could be created specifically with Jon Stewart in mind since he appears to be just about the only person in main stream media at least partially willing to ask poignant questions of his guests. If he could be convinced to at least ask his guests some of the questions Libertarians would pose perhaps a greater portion of the population would be exposed to the true ideals behind this country.

btw I've posted this before but I'll add it here as well. Read the Santorum portion of the following link.

I think it sounds like a great idea, though I'd have to find a lot of free time to conduct the research. Phred seems to be more well-read than I am, so I'm sure he could contribute more. But I'll do what I can.

It's funnier, IMO, but I wouldn't say the two are similar.

I think The Daily Show has the potential to affect a greater number of people. Also Jon Stewart comes across as more rational or at least more appealing in his arguments.

So what do you think Phred or anyone else? This is the PA&L forum.
