I wonder why mescaline isn't more popular.

I googled and looked at erwoid (sp?) and read a lot of stuff about peyote/mescaline. Considering its ancient history, natural origins and relative safety why isn't mescaline more popular these days?
Is it hard to abstract from the cacti? Is it hard to grow it yourself?
Linking to other threads welcome.
Thank you.

peyote isn't all that common because it takes years to grow, but i'm surprised synthetic mescaline isn't around anymore.

probably because making the cactus juice is fairly time consuming, and it tastes worse then drinking a glass of earwax! The experience however is extremely enjoyable, it was actually my first psychedelic substance.

you can drastically speed up the growth process by grafting peyote or san pedro onto pereskiopsis.

Not popular? Damn, I've never even heard of it in my circle before - Would love to get my hands on some. I have absolutely no idea what to buy on e-bay though, never quite researched it myself. Never thought Cacti would grow well in VA :/

I would say its more unavailable than unpopular.
if only the Feds mass produced that shit the way they do ecstacy... but of course, that will never happen. The Feds want people to do drugs that make them complacent and accepting of the world around them, they don't want people to do drugs that make them question reality...

mescaline in its easist consumption form (cacti sludge) induces vomitting and physical distress - not to mention the bitter, bitter taste. mescaline is uncommon like ayahuasca is uncommon - for pretty much the same reason.
if mescaline were synthed and mass distributed, people would love it.

I thought that guy who lived in the missile silo synthed it? Granted it wouldn't still be around - but would be cool to get ahold of.. I'm reading up on erowid about the trip itself - intense visuals is what you see in the movies, trying to read up and verify that, Might actually be worthy of e-baying

Mescaline...mmmm.
I love it as much as I love mushroom...LSD kinda throws me in delirium. Like, last time I was tripping on L I convinced my gf that I was 66 years old (Im 18) and she was laughing for about 20 minutes, nonstop. I like it, but its just a rollercoaster ride everytime, you wonder what happened when you're done doing it. With mushrooms, with mescaline I learn something new everytime. ...And might try out some 2c-i pretty soon, fuck yeah.

Peyote is only one of the neatest drugs out there. And questioning reality shouldn't scare the government. =(

mescaline is fucking ammmmmmmazing!
but, at least in the cacti form - tastes god-awful.
psychedelics in general, in my opinion/experience, are 'too much' for the masses. sure it'd be great if people could all turn on and realize that we are all one. but people are all a bunch of jackasses who like to get drunk and fight each other. give them a dose of mesc and they'll just start freaking out. first we need to deal with the mass psychological state of our society. then we can worry about the missing mescaline.

Yea I kinda agree with that, I think most people couldn't take high doses of psychedelics. They would get too freaked out and emotional at the experience. I think if they could work though it, it would be a life changing experience for them, and really open their mind up to new possibilities but I agree with you that their not for everyone. Take care

Thats not pretty looking but
this is.
They are the cutest cactuses ever. I really want to grow them. I have a fetish for bamboo, cacti, and mushrooms. Plant life is so cool.
I agree on people being able to handle psychedelics in a general cattegory. It is pretty intense. But hey, just means some of us have that extra perceptive window they don't understand or grasp. Exposure is good... its just really hard for most folks.

That's a beautiful Peyote. They take years to grow though, I'd say at least 4 years to get to that size...probably six, and yea plant life is AWESOME Take care

I know. Peyote are a loooonnnnggg process. It'd be so cool though. Just growing and learning with the plant so on that mind trip in 6 years really means something.

Its extremely hard to gather and cultivate from scratch. Trying to find extacted mescaline is almost un heard of. The only easy way would be to get san pedro and make a tea. Otherwise you can spend a really long time growing peyote, or using a whole bunch of san pedro and going through a really long process of synthesis.
Otherwise, im sure if it had an abundance like marijuana, it would be a lot more popular, but as ive mentioned already, and im sure the rest of the people in this thread have already mentioned (which im too lazy to read all of it), it just takes tooo much work.

No.....I highly doubt that the feds produce/distribute MDMA, loving everyone and everything isn't good for business, it's hard to convince a roller to go off to war and/or to fuck over their fellow man in return for more money. The feds distribute coke & heroin, and probably other hard drugs as well.

To synth means to make a third product by combining two. When, say, LSD is 'synthesized' (not extracted from ergot), it is a product of two chemicals combining to make lysergic acid diathylamide-25. When a hydrogen atom and two water atoms bond, they form water, water is not 'extracted' from air...

I doubt that there are many junkies lining up to go war. The reason that the feds distribute mass amounts of these drugs is that they are aware that there will be a demand for them no matter what, a golden opportunity for some cash. The government will want to stick their hands in anything that has a cash flow like the drug trade.

It is not synthesized as much as say MDMA,MDA or LSD because for the ingredients needed one could make more MDMA or meth than mescaline. Simply the profits would be so slim that it wouldn't be economical to produce it on the level of other psychoactives they can produce.
I for one am glad it is like that because it's something sacred that shouldn't be out there for the abuse of the mass population. That said I will be going to my grand fathers house this afternoon to take care of the many cactus he has growing there.

It's growing in popularity. I don't think people were aware how easy it was to obtain! Also, they didn't want to grow it or know how. I think a vast majority was under the impression that Peyote is the only Cacti to trip on. I follow a couple FB groups, and there's definitely been an increase. You see it in the rising price of cuttings!
