Outside bed disturbed. Animals??
    #4450195 - 07/25/05 01:15 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

My friend tells me that she noticed that some caps were knocked off the stems and one mushy was almost dug up in the garden.

I told her it may be squirrels or a rabit that may have been snooping. Anyone had any experience with this??

Do you think it was a rabit/squirrel she should be concerned about... or something more?

It could be both and many other animals. Does your friend have allot of certain kinds of animals around?

There are tons or both rabits and squirrels. Why would they detach the cap from the stem though?

I would not put it past a rabit. The best way to get answers is to use a video camera.

I think it was a shroom mole. They are notorious for popping up out of holes in the ground and flicking mushroom caps off of stems. It's best just to let them have their fun. They can't be stopped!

A dog or cat could knock a cap off walking on it, bumping it,etc.

maybe the caps got bored of their surroundings and decided to move to the city.

At my house the racoons start digging up softer places in my yard looking for grubs at this time of the year. They want protein and the soil outside the garden is rock hard. Sometimes I put blackberry branches over special projects to keep them out.
