ID this Mushroom!
    #4450104 - 07/25/05 12:50 PM (11 years, 4 months ago)

When I woke up yesterday morning, I looked outside and lo' and behold a mushroom was growing in one of my flowerpots! I cheered. Since yesterday its cap has gone from incurved to slightly uplifted (as you can see in the pictures).

I'm curious to know what kind of mushroom it is! My digital camera is very old, but it's better than nothing, so here are some pictures.

Suddenly found two growing in a flowerpot outside yesterday. Now three! :smile: The rest of the pictures focus on the largest one, the glowing one (that's just how my camera took the picture--I didn't shop it. My camera is on mescaline or something).

Top-side view.

Another top view. The color appears different due to lighting, but it's really the same as before. It is a yellow-white.

Gills.

Gills again.

Another look at the top of one... disregard the small woodchip on top of the cap.

I don't expect this mushroom to be psychoactive--it doesn't look like any psychoactive mushroom I've ever seen or heard of, but one should never rule out the possibility. It could also be poisonous! I just don't know. I don't necessarily plan on consuming it since I'm too inexperienced with identification.

* It is a yellow-whitish color.
* It is delightfully soft to the touch, and it is not wet, moist, or sticky.
* I did not try to taste even a small part of it for fear of it being poisonous... I don't want to take risks.
* It was found in Southern California.
* One of the caps is 8cm across, the other 7cm, and the last is 4-5cm.

If anyone could identify it, that would be great. I hope you can make some sense of my crude pictures!

The common Leucocoprinus birnbaumii strikes again.

Happy mushrooming!

i love those little guys, they're cute. it't like the mushrooms are reaching out to people and saying "grow us too".
