k, well im not exactly sure wat you mean but.... im in central USA near lake michagen, its been really hot and humid here for a long time now... the caps shoot up pretty frequently out of nowhere but they get eaten (or die?) within a day or 2 every time

Inky caps indeed (Coprinus). Exact species shouldnt be too hard to find from there. Non-active.

definately Coprinus species [the genus including the inky caps]; probably a species within the Coprinus lagopus group.

for future reference, infomation on describing a mushroom for proper identification can be found in this thread. this is the Forum Rules and ID Tips thread foundat the top of the mushroom hunting forum listing. descriptions including the information listed in this thread [to the best of your ability] is mandatory for mushroom identification requests and will make identifications of your finds more trustworthy.
