Is it possible to say, mix two prints from 2 cube strains in the same syringe and get a hybridized result?

If you mix the spores I think the more dominant strain will just overcome the other and that's the type of mushrooms you'll get.

Good point. I remeber those pics from Ralphster. Based on those pics, both strains will pop up and grow side by side.

I dont think Ralph's pans and cubes are a good comparison, because they are two different species. < Generaly two strians or sub types of the same species can mate and produce offspring, that is the definition of a species. I remember reading in similar post a while back that this hybridization only really happens if both spores are grown in in a nutrinent deficent medium for a long time; like honey water. Actully I know of someone who has just innoculated jars today with a similar mycelium solution, We will see how it goes.:)

Gathering from the replies i am assuming that this idea hasn't been fully explored yet. Maybe some of the more Mycology inclined should look into this. Imagine this message board being the place for the birth of the Supercubie. =) far fetched, but possible, no?

Don't think its been tried before? Many have tried. Few have succeeded. By few I mean none. Its possible but the work involved, and the factors that come into play make it pointless. Its hard enough to get the strains to mate, and if you do succeed, you are likely to get a non-fruiting strain, or a poor fruiting strain, or very weak strain. The chances of getting a new super strain, are about as good as winning powerball.

I have read a number of post from people that have tried similar experiments. The mycelium will battle it out.The dominat strain will fruit.Sometimes both will fruit. One more than the other. Either way, they don't mate to produce a new strain.
