What type of light to use?

If a FOAF was planning on using a compost in the closet type tek, what type of light would he need to use if doing about a 12/12 light/dark cycle on his tubs? Is a grow light/sun type light required, or will regular house bulbs work? Any info in this subject would be appreciated.

from what i understand from reading teks, it's not the kind of light, or the amount of time that the mushrooms are exposed to it, but merely the presence of light to let the shrooms know which way to grow. (please, anyone with results that show otherwise, please post!) - my pet mongoose's trainer is using an 18 inch flourescent tube set to 8 hrs per day in a closet, trying to mimic nature somewhat.

From what I understand, fluorescent tubes/bulbs aer best. AFAIK, you don't need a dark cycle either.

Think of this: in nature, all the action takes place underground in total darkness. Only when the mushroom is big enough to crack the surface, does it get exposed to light. This is in the last few days of it's life cycle.
They are not plants, they do not get any energy from light, merely a direction in which to grow.
I've done experiments with lights in the blue spectrum and didn't really notice any difference either.
