Confla
    #4443705 - 07/23/05 04:16 PM (18 years, 8 months ago)

Anyone heard about this idea of Confla? I just heard about it yesterday from a few philosophy friends I have who are into similar theories that some Shroomerites seem to have. Apparently the idea involves quantum in a strange way, not that I agree with it, but I thought I would find out if anyone knew more about it here. The idea involves a parallel universe existing in some other dimension, on top of ours, but in a different dimmension so we cannot see it, sort of like how 2 pieces of paper can be on top of each other, but neither would know it. The idea is that consciousness is in this upper universe, and our physics selves are in this lower universe. They gave me this whole thing about how this is why it appears that we have no free will since we cannot directly control anything, but only vicariously suggest it or something, I will try to get more information on this. But when we die we return to pure consciousness where everyone exists without a physics self per se, so people have to live in harmony as there is no control over the weak. Anyways I may be presenting this wrong, so I will let someone else who has heard of this take over for me. The name I know is quite strange, I am pretty sure this is what he called it, I am not sure why it is named this.

As opposed to two pieces of paper ever knowing about each other, or knowing anything at all?

Eh, well I was too lazy to point out if a 2-d person was located on the paper, he wouldnt ever know about the other 2-d person on the other paper. I guess I should be extremely clear in all cases.

It sounds more like new age gibberish than philosophy, though something slightly similar is the notion of possible worlds to express modal claims.

I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about it, or could correct me or something. Or if anyone had thoughts on it. I personally feel as you do.

Well this is very similar to what I've deduced, but I never heard the word confla before.

Basically, if matter emerges from consciousness rather than vice-versa, consciousness would have to exist on a plane separate ("higher" if you will) from the physical matter, or else consciousness would follow the same laws as physical matter, which it doesn't. Consciousness has abstract attributes which don't follow physical laws. For instance, when you imagine something in your mind's eye this is a completely abstract happening because what you imagine doesn't appear in front of you physically, but the imagination is represented physically by neurons firing within the brain.

I dont follow you, you say that consciousness cant exist in a physical plain, but then point out that imagination is just a physical firing of neurons. Ha yea the name is a bit silly, Ill have to at some point confirm that that is the name, as I was quite stoned at the time and not paricularly interested in the technicalities of what they were saying. However I am pretty sure that is what it is.

Good point.

If matter emerges from consciousness, that could lead to an interesting creation theory.  The concept of "god", or "all consciousness" could have created "all matter" in an explosive "first thought."  Extropolate as you will..

i like the sound of that-
it's like saying that mind and body are co-existensive, one thing with two aspects, some spinozist monism up in here
the quantum part i'd like to hear more about; that stuff always seems to obfuscate the issue of consciousness, in my quantum layman's eyes, but who knows?

sorry, maybe i wasn't clear enough. I meant that the abstractions produced by consciousness don't exist in the physical plane. like, when you talk to yourself in your head, the words you're saying don't literally exist physically. They're abstractions. But they're evidenced by or represented tangibly by the physical brain activity.

Well they maybe be abstractions from the perspective of us, sort of how a computer just runs on voltage levels turning on and off transistors, but the end result is a picture on our screen. So while they may be abstractions, they are purely physical. Also paper is 3-d, but the 2-d person living on it, is only 2-d. Eh I also made up the whole idea of this just to see if it was really that easy to make up this stuff. Sorry for leading you guys on, twas sort of mean.
