Is Promoting the Shroomery a Good Thing?
    #4443528 - 07/23/05 03:14 PM (18 years, 8 months ago)

Obviously it will generate more ad revenue for whoever collects the checks. It will even help some people to discover information about psychedelics. However I have heard opinions that it might not be a good idea. What do you think are the pros and cons?
Is promoting the website at raves/festivals a good thing for the cause of magic mushrooms?
You may choose only one

If you are talking about walking around telling people about it then no way it's a bad idea. I have seen people in pictures on this board wearing Shroomery hoodies. I would never advertise in any way, shape or form that I have anything to do with drugs. It's not a good idea in my opinion.

EDIT: I just read the actual poll. Sorry. I thought you meant advertising to the general public. At raves, etc. yeah I think it is a good idea

Given the nature of this site, I'm not sure that excessive attention is neccessary, nor is it wise. If one is determined enough in their endeavors, then they will be destined to wind up here with their questions and advice.

I wouldn't go so far as to say this is a small community as it stands currently. Sure it is in comparison to how many people there are on the entire planet, but that's irrelevant. If it's put up for advertisement, then it's put up for scrutiny.

IMO, all members here should perceive the Shroomery as one of the last remaining legal hallucinogens. If it's too popular, if too many people know, someone's going to fuck it up eventually.

Sure it is...if its done in a positive way.

Raves, Concerts and Festivals are a great way to spread the word about the Shroomery.

Taking out an Ad in the New York Times might be a bad idea.

We will be promoting the Shroomery at Hempfest in Seattle this year.

Zippoz just got a reply back from the Hempfest people...its

I will be there at the Shroomery table handing out Shroomery information and talking to people.

Hempfest is August 20th and 21st...hope to see some of you there.

for those of you that think that the shroomery is low key, it is not... it was just named by a new york senator who is sponsoring an-anti ssalvia bill.... we get from 2-2.5 MILLOIN hits a day...

considering that we only had 20,000 flyers printed, even if we gave them out in a single day that would only be 1% of each days hits...

now when you consider where and to who we are promoting, you have to realise that we are only strengthening our core audience!

What reason did this Senator have to name the Shroomery? Do you have a link to an article?

SENATE VOTES TO BAN SALVIA DIVINORUM

Substance Produces Hallucinogenic Effects Similar to LSD

Monday, June 6, 2005

Working aggressively to ban the sale of an increasingly popular party scene drug, Senator John J. Flanagan (R,C-East Northport) today announced that the New York State Senate has passed legislation he sponsored to ban the sale of Salvia Divinorum in New York State.

"This drug is rapidly increasing in popularity among recreational drug users especially among young adults and adolescents," said Senator Flanagan. "It is a drug that produces hallucinations similar to those experienced by LSD and it is readily available and legally for sale on the Internet."

"As a father of three children, I am deeply concerned that kids are being attracted to this drug because of its promotion on the Internet. The public needs to realize that just because Salvia Divinorum is for sale on the Internet does not mean that it is safe. This is a substance currently listed as a "chemical of concern" by the Drug Enforcement Administration," Flanagan said.

Salvia Divinorum, also known as Diviner?s Sage, Sister Salvia, Ska Maria Pastora or simply salvia, is a psychoactive plant from the mint family. According to the DEA Salvia divinorum is chewed or smoked to induce illusions and hallucinations, the diversity of which is described by users as similar to those induced by ketamine, mescaline, or psilocybin. It?s currently under review by the medical and scientific community to determine if it should be a controlled substance.

Flanagan noted that his office found dozens of web sites offering Salvia Divinorum for sale and tips on how to best use it. Included among them are: Dr. Bong?s Cannabis Imporium, Just Say Once to Salvia, Grass City, Marijuana Alternatives, The Shroomery, Tripzone, and the Stop Drug War.

Under Flanagan?s bill, the General Business Law will be amended to prohibit the sale of Salvia Divinorum in New York State. Violators will be subject to up to a $500 civil penalty.

"This is an interim measure to raise awareness of the drug and allow law enforcement and science to continue further study before we engage in full criminalization," Flanagan said. "This step will allow for further investigation while giving localities a reasonable weapon in protecting its citizens."

Flanagan said the drug has been banned in Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Italy and South Korea, and Finland has restricted its importation. Missouri and Louisiana have introduced legislation to ban the drug and St. Peter?s, Missouri has passed a municipal ordinance prohibiting sale to minors under 17. The United States Congress has introduced legislation to schedule salvia as a controlled substance but it has not yet been enacted.

zippoz, are those 2-2.5 million hits from unique IP's or just members looking at new threads?

i was also curious if people think that if the shroomery is being mentioned in a bill about making salvia illegal, will it be mentioned again in a future bill that might outlaw psilocybe precursors.

anyone ever been to a party that got too big?
