*sigh* my casing is dying, any help?
    #4421644 - 07/18/05 11:54 PM (18 years, 8 months ago)

Damnit all...

Alright I've had this casing in fruiting for about a week now, and it started growing hyphal knots which elongated, and the tips were starting to turn brown.. but I'm coming to the realization that this thing is just messed up.  Today I went out an got the supplies for a PMP to help raise the humitidy in the chamber (which was previously, just the casing sitting inside of a larger tub, fanning manually, and misting every so often).  The tips of a lot of the "future pins" have turned blue and looks like it is dying. =(

It is definately BLUE and not mean green.

Edit: I know this thing is pretty much doomed, which is very, very sad.  I am starting over from scratch, already have 5 LC's of various strains ready to go, and am cooking up 20 grain jars tonight.  It's sad, but I am resiliant, and I will do this again, and I am going to set up a greenhouse this time around, and pamper them

Do you think there's any hope at all for this casing, though?

I dont see any primordia or pins there, just healthy looking rhizos to me..colonization could be a little less and more even, and the casing mix looks like it could be improved upon...not sure about the texture look from the pics. It doesnt look dead though by any means.

Turn your closet into a fruiting chamber
Casing layer colonization and overlay

Note in the center of the picture, the rhizo which has turned blue at the tip? Here's another pic of it in full scale.

It's been in fruiting mode for 7 days, and has not grown any more myc. Just things that "should" be pins but never develope into them... Those "rhizos" you speak of even developed ball like ends but, they all turned blue today. :-\

nice overlay, also looks a bit too wet, but otherwise healthy.

Thanks for the input guys  I am still a bit worried though, I mean, there is blueing going on at the ends of the rhizo :frown: What would cause something like that?

over watering could be the cause, less misting, and more fanning for a while.
maybe tip that bowl on its side and see if any water drains out.
you don't want any standing water in the bottom.

You need to chill out man, if you created a PMP for it just let it do its thing. There is NO overlay. A little over colonised on half but nothing to worry about. Keep the air exchange up and let it do its thing. Its not very common to get pins before 7 days.

Yeah the PMP has to wait until morning... I got this air pump and air stone and some pumice and stuff... and the dang air pump didn't come with a tube, so now I gotta wait til stores open to go get some. *cry*
