I would suggest a 1/2 inch hole in metal lid, filter disk over the lid & under the screw ring. I would also suggest WBS/Rye over P-corn.

I would suggest FREE tyvek, over paying for filters that are no more effective than tyvek.

Free tyvek can be had at your local post office, they are priotiry express envelopes and say in the corner Dupont Tyvek. You can also order them on the post office's website, for free, with free delivery, for hundreds of envelopes, each one can make at least 12 filters, more if you take time on each envelope. Its not exactly the same, but pretty close, and thats what everyone else uses.

Check the envelopes some have recycled paper with the tyvek.

With a bunch of the right envelopes and a modified cookie cutter and about a half hour you'll have tyvek disks for life

If you want a bunch of free tyvek, just go to an area around you where they are building new houses. They wrap that shit around houses, and they always have tons of scraps. I clean up construction sites for a living and i have a rediculous amount of tyvek in my house now because of it. 8 foot wide rolls with a full 20 feet left are not all that uncommon to find just laying in the garbage bins.

You can buy replacement mason jar lids at any grocery store that sells mason jars. They'll be in a small box right next to the jars. You need to use the lids or your spawn/substrate will dry out too much. Be sure to have the filter material on the outside of the lid so it won't get wet. I use three 1/8" holes in my lids because I don't want the grains hitting the filter material when I shake the jars. If the filter gets wet with grain juice, it will contaminate right through it.

Post office envelopes, a modified cookie cutter and a half hour and you have disks for life.

Remember some of those post office envelopes are 25% recycled paper mixed with the tyvek and cause more probs then they solve.

I have tons of tyvek around also, including tyvek sleeves and full body suits that I wear when doing sterile work. I have to disagree however that tyvek is as good as synthetic filter disks. The filter disks are PFTE and ten times the thickness of tyvek. The filter disks I use are rated to stop 99.99% of contaminants down to .1 micron size. That makes them considerably better than a laminar flow hood. They also are infinitely reusable. I have some that are several years old, covered with rust and other stains, but still work wonderfully after thousands of uses. Tyvek will work for you 'most' of the time, but if you're seriously anal about success, get the filter disks.

Dont open the lid...BandAids come sterile and 3M MicroPore tape (medical tape) works wonders too. In a pinch i,ve used electrical tape with good success, just minimalize air exposure time of the sticky side.

Take care n be safe...
