All the people I've met who were going into that profession were pretty whacky themselves. And actually they were suffering from a psychiatric disorder known as "projection". They didn't realize that they themselves needed the help.

Hehe, dead doctors may not lie, but living veteranarians certainly seem to.
And badchad makes a good point about stress. It does seem that doctors have a slightly lower lifespan than the average, but stress could certainly be a huge factor.
Also, in my experience, knowledge about what is healthy doesn't necessarily translate to leading a healthy lifestyle. I know a bunch of different people who work in health research in some capacity who smoke cigars, eat large amounts of high fat foods, or drink heavily. It's not uncommon to know whats best for you without actually doing whats best for you.

It certainly is. 16 hour days are not uncommon for an MD, and then there's the inevitable calls at 4AM to deal with as well. Also, being exposed to a variety of illnesses can take it's toll as well......
