Bubbles in jars
    #4437517 - 07/22/05 09:46 AM (18 years, 8 months ago)

if there were tiny little bubbles of water on the inside of the glass on 4 brf/verm 1/2 pint jars which were steamed for an hour yesterday morning, would it be safe to proceed with inoculation???

steamed or PCed?
Do they look dryer now? The jars should not have standing water or look incredibly saturated. There should be space in between the BRF/verm particles so the colony can move through the substrate.

they were steamed not pced... the substrate itself looks ok, it just seems that some condensation has collected on the inside of the jars, and i was wondering if this is a problem?

thanks for the responses... i just noc'ed them up. i noticed that the rice on the bottom of the jars seems to have gotten more cooked then the rest of the rice during sterilization. In that i mean the rice looks as if it has released more starch on the bottom of the jar and looks more "glued" to the jar. is this going to cause me any problems other than being a pain in the ass getting it out??? thanks for all your help.

im assuming your using whole grain and not flour. You should have shaken the jar, if anything it will just take a bit longer to colonize down there. Extra water in your jar can cause sontams, but, you should be ok.

i'm actually using homemade brf, made with a blender, but after i steam the jars, the brf always turns into tiny little pellets... i guess my blender work isnt top-notch. thanks again.
