Help -- in labor need help--pics
    #4435959 - 07/22/05 12:35 AM (11 years, 8 months ago)

This is my first time growing and I used PFtek and I have four jars that I have opened and was planning on dunking and rolling as suggested by another member. I thought I would open the jars and still have the vermiculite on top and dump it out and pour water in the jars with the cake and then put in the fridge for 12 hours, take out, roll in vermiculite and place in terrarium.

I inoculated these jars on July 1, 2005.

I opened the jars and the mycelium has covered the vermeclite on top. I turned one jar over and slapped the bottom of the jar to try to loosen, which did not work.

1.How do I get them out of the jars?
2.Should I still put them in water and how?
3. Do they look alright? or did I do something wrong?
4. They are so "mushroomy" smelling, will the smell permeate the area of my house that I put the terrariums in ?

2. yes, some say to just fill the jar with water, i put them in my pc below the rack and put a bowl of water on top of the rack to weigh it down.
3. looks fine to me.

i just slap the ready cake and loosen it from the jar, then fill with water, then put the cap back on and put in the fridge for 24 hours. works like a charm.

What else is a pressure cooker typically used for?  I don't want any questioning from members of my household as to why we now own a pressure cooker, and it would be nice to spit out something innocent and creative as a response.

canning foods like peaches and veggies.  You can make dinner with it too, cook meat, chicken, etc.  But mainly they're used for canning.
