globalisation...
    #4434389 - 07/21/05 06:27 PM (12 years, 5 days ago)

here is an absurd example of globalisation in my country, it's really a twised strange world.

In our stores in Croatia, you can buy a natural watter called "bistra". It is special kind of mineral watter that is taken from a local natural source in a willage called "Gotalovec"

Now the watter is packed and distributed from here, but guess who ownes it? Coca Cola company

Can you imagine that?

So Coca Cola company sells us our own watter

We are everyones but ours..

You know we used to manufacture trains, diesel locomotives and stuff in 80's, and now that factory has been converted into an american military base.

Can you imagine that?

An american military base in Croatia?

They crawled in during the war as a part of SFOR, but then the SFOR left our country, and americans stayed there using the base.

Can you imagine taking a walk in an european country breathing fresh air, and there you stuble upon a huge military base with american army.

It is hilarious.

Of course, we don't ask any questions because america owns the world, so nobody dares to tell them to get the fuck out of there and give us our factory.

Well it's not like we want our military bases HERE.

it doesn't make sense to me. One country, one government, two militaries on its territory.

That's not because of what's commonly called globalization.  That's because there used to be this thing called "communism," which everyone was afraid of(excluding the communists, of course), and so the US, being one of two super-powers(the others were dirty commies) built military bases all around the world to keep back the communist threat.

I think you're talking about continued 19th century imperialism rather than fortifying against the Communist Block...atleast directly.

This happened in mid 90's, not in times of communism.

And besides, why don't we put our military base outside LA just to be sure what is going on there?
