beginner needs help
    #443386 - 10/31/01 04:42 PM (23 years, 16 days ago)

Hi, I'm a beginner. I did the whole 12 jars thing with the syring and the whole process kinda messed up i lost a lot of jars to contamination and some didn't even start. Well looking back i made some stupid mistakes and i was going to try it over this weekend since i got a glove box and pressure cooker. ok, there were these 3 jars that seemed to be doing fine, and i had to go out of town for a while and when i got back they were 100% colonized. I couldn't believe i didn't lose them to contaminations. So my question is what to do with them. I cased 2 jars earlier but this damn green mold and whitish-gray web like mold attacked my dirt and verm casing and stop all good growth. So i was wondering what to do with them, ill just do what you guys think , i only have 3 (and 1 thats about 25% colinized but hasent grown for like 2 weeks) jars. Thanks for all your help.

Grow them out as cakes in a perlite humidified chamber. You will, for sure, get a few nice sized shrooms and spore print them. Then you can make a nice spore syringe and start the process all over again. Make sure you are sterile (make use of you glovebox and pressure cooker, sonny).

With all your problems, it sounds like maybe....just maybe your substrate was alittle on the dry side. I make this statement because you say you have a jar thats 25% colo. and seems to have stalled. Then you say that some of the jars really took off(colo. fast). So i'm wondering....did you make all the substrate at the same time, or did you do alittle here and a little there? If you still have the casing then you might want to cut the infected area's out, and spray with a solution of H2O2/water, and then recover them. Also did you use the P.cooker to sterilize your jars. You made it seem like you just got it? As far as the glove box.....never had one. Oven tek works wonders....but since you have one...use it!
What did you case with and how did you sterilize it?
Well last but not least......go over the entire steps, till it's burned in your brain. Then go over the fine detail of the sterility of everything.
Hope this helps.
Good Luck!
