grain refers to anything thats not flour. WBS, Rye Berries, Rye, Grass seed etc. Those are all grains. When people here talk about grains they refer to the collective as a whole. Brown rice whole is a grain, ground down its a flour.

Thremix, you are doing fine. Grain as it is used here is not part of cooking! I get it at a health food bulk area. I use rye, because it stands up to boiling the best, but you have to follow a procedure, as it has endospores in it which will bloom to something that looks kinda like snot, and smells like baby poop. EEEch! You can use all kinds, rice tends to get 'sticky' and makes it harder. Look for Rye tek on the tek area. Grass seed will even work. Mushrooms are funny! they don't follow our logic.

I wouldnt mess with bloodmeal...get to poo first, get that working, then you can work on adding a nitrogen suppliment.
IMO, BRF only has a purpose in this hobby if you dont have a PC. Grains are a snap, for small or large scale.

thremix said: so hotnutz, by rice, are you talking about Brown rice? Full grain?
Rice is rice. No matter what the nutritional values of white versus brown, versus long grains versus short. IMO, rice is rice for mushroom cultivation. I've used it all with good results from all of it.
