I was feeling down and bored today, so I threw in some Coldplay into my CD player and felt my love for simply existing return. Rock on Coldplay!

yeah man, White Shadows and Speed of Sound and (maybe) Talk are IMO the best songs on their new CD.

Green Eyes, Clocks, and God Put a Smile on Your Face and a few others actually are good on their A Rush of Blood to the Head CD.

Yeah Coldplay is good stuff. I don't have their new album yet, I always forget to look for it when I'm out. I have all their old ones though and listen to them pretty frequently.

Their music always takes me to a different place, like no matter what I'm feeling like, I always close my eyes and just flow with the music. They're so original. It's that kind of music that you don't just listen to you, you feel it. Powerful. I think I'll put some on right now :smirk:

I love Parachutes, and I think A Rush of Blood to the Head is an excellent album too...but this new piece of work they've put out is essentially shite...and when I saw them live in May, they were a snoozefest.

But they'll always hold a special place in my heart. No matter how much they get cheesified by corporations playing their tunes to cheesy commercials or what not, no matter how much they're a pop sensation, there is GOOD MUSIC on those first two albums. First time I tripped with my girlfriend we planned the trip around Coldplay's first album, namely that we would listen to it while walking across the Brooklyn Bridge. It was intense.

There's a certain taste to their arrangements that evades many other bands, classical touches with a rock foundation beneath...it's not all shit.

Really? You don't like their newer album? Is it because of their shift towards being 'pop' music and all? I agree with that in large part, but there are still a few really good songs on the new CD IMO.

How was the Brooklyn Bridge?

I just think there's a certain soullessness to the new album...it has nothing to do with poppiness, I love music that is poppy and dancy and upbeat and that uses the electronic flourishes they're introducing into theirs. I don't like it cause I think it's just plain not as good as their others.

The Brooklyn Bridge is always tits.

Yeah I see how you can think it's kind of plain. It is a different direction, they said themselves that they're heading in a new direction - listening to Brian Eno and upbeat electronic type music. I can hear it in their new CD, and yeah I suppose it does sort of not have that 'variety'  (for lack of a better word) that their older ones have.

I kinda feel like they're trying too hard now...I dunno, it's very tied up with my live experience with them at Coachella, and then the fact that a friend had a similar experience in a secret show at a tiny venue a couple weeks later...just seems like they're losing it a bit. Chris Martin's getting a bit tiresome...

But I'll tell you, when you walk across the Brooklyn Bridge it's epic. The walkway is above all the cars, huge beautiful walkway with a bike path and everything. And when you first walk up the Manhattan side of the bridge it's like all the buildings are moving back as you're moving forward over the water, ahhh it's gorgeous, and Coldplay's pianos matched up perfectlyw ith that.
