What is it (NY Fungi)
    #4427923 - 07/20/05 01:18 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Found in northern New York, on a running trail that cirlces a baseball field. Spore print looks dark brown. Doesn't turn blue.
What could these be? Are they active?

If they don't stain blue they are most likely NOT "active"!!

"A smoker would theoretically have to consume nearly fifteen hundred pounds of marijuana within about 15 minutes to induce a lethal response... In strict medical terms, marijuana is far safer than many of the foods we commonly consume. For example, eating ten raw potatoes can result in a toxic response. By comparison, it is physically impossible to eat enough marijuana to induce death."

Yeah that's true some poisonus ones also stain blue but all the ACTIVE ones stain blue so if you find one that stains blue it is likely that it's active!!
But NEVER EAT IF NOT 10000000% sure!!!

Also, not all active ones bruise blue. Panaeolus subbalteatus comes to mind (although I have heard that in rare cases it may bruise blue, but in general it does not). I'm not sure if there are any other actives that don't bruise blue, though. Those don't really look like anything active, though.
