Who do you make your God?
    #4427404 - 07/20/05 10:42 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

We should take care not to make the intellect our god; it has, of course, powerful muscles, but no personality. - Einstein

Any thoughts? :mushroom2:

I think Einstein generally had a problem with people making anything their "god".

From my point of view, it is simply silly to make any one part of Creation into a "god".....because all of Creation is "god", not just one little peice

I like that. I've always held that if there is a God, it would have to be the absolute dumbest being in existence.

the intellect in comparison to your own personal intellect?

--------------------
A plethora of music aspirations control my temptations of future revelations beyond "now". The percussion, and the heart beat of my love and devotion. The rhythm goes beyond, prying into the third eye, releasing the creativity held so far inside. The melodicies, through the out of tune pianos and broken classical guitars...there lies a beauty. A beauty as prevelent as the fire inside. To release these energies is pure ecstacy, to deveop these gifts is sacred. The vocality, so pure as can be, shying away from herself, lies within me. For the underlying serenitity, this is what I live for. I plea for harmony, and nothing more. Music equals love. Creation of love leads to the procreativity of the World, and it's spirals and puddles prevailing.

Our intelect is slow and fragile. It is under lot of pressure from all sides, bombarded with obstacles and questions from the depths of the universe, it only takes a small spark for it to steer into ignorance instead of knowledge.

It is a powerfull tool, indeed, but it can be a dangerous weapon, and when someone decides to live a life of an investigator of the universe, he has huge responsibility and must be extreamly cautious with it, because he will be bombarded with all this data, and it will be extreamly difficult to come up with right conclusions because:

1. he will never be given all the clues, and all the variables
2. he will never know does he or does he not know all the variables
3. he will never know how many variables he is missing

while speculation, interpolation and induction can be powerfull tools, they are blind tools, and have equal chance of putting the thinker into state of ignorance and putting into state of enlightenment.

In order to have a chance of finding any true knowledge, one must learn to accept some things:

1. nothing is ridiculous, far-fetched, impossible, silly and there is no common sense

2. statistics and probability can help you to prepare for some things, but they tell you nothing about truth. Even though statistics would say otherwise, nothing prevents a man from winning EVERY time on lottery, each week from his birth to death. It is improbable, but not impossible. Probability can help you how to behave in this world, how to steer your life, but it will never tell you the truth about future. It will always be accurate speculation, not prediction.

3. when a new question, or issue is brought before you, your initial state is ignorance, not knowledge. Your experience does not teach you truth, you can not predict, you can not know without contact, in fact you are in a state of total ignorance until you start investigating.

4. finding knowledge is only a game, ONLY a game, because in the end, when you find knowledge, you can only play the game of pretending you KNOW, because you will never know anything for sure, not even about yourself. All you can do is play this game of pretending to know all your life. but this is a dangerous game. ALL people in jails were locked because of what others BELIEVE, not because of what others KNOW. We will never really know who is guilty of what, nor is there a way to find that out for sure, we can take chances and hope that most of those who are in jail DID comming the cirme we charged them with.

the only thing we will ever know for sure is that SOMETHING IS GOING ON.

  I have though this also. This lead me to an understanding that I have a choice on what I will choose to believe, in the sense that I don't know if my choice is "truth", it has a chance to be correct..  It seemed important to consider then, what would really make me the most happy in this life.  I choose to persue love, because when I am able to be wrapped up in it, it feels better than anything else, and has an equal chance of being the correct course in the persuit of truth. Or something like that.

Logical thinking has a limit of not knowing anything for sure, love is limitless  and the rest of the personality for me. That is spirituality  to me.  :sun:

you are living in a society built on trust in humans senses and experiences. Because such experiences are not accurate, we still are not omnipotent. but we have come a long way by trusting our subjective experiences.

If we we able to see things as they are, we would have no more room for progress, we would be everywhere at all time, just like god.
We would all be one thing, called god.

But we are removed from reality, and see so little (we don't see atoms so we had to live thousands of years not knowing the structure of space), yet this little piece is a good start.

you really have no choice but to accept what information you are given, because that one has maximum chance of being true.

Maybe GOD just 'doesn't sweat the small stuff...and it's all small stuff!' Perhaps GOD seems disinterested in our existence, but is intimately interested in our essence because [S]He realizes Him-Herself through our eyes. The Universe is not for nothing.
