Baseball cards go down in value?
    #4425804 - 07/19/05 10:04 PM (18 years, 8 months ago)

I recently pulled out my baseball cards, only to find they are all now either worthless or seemingly worth a lot less than they used to be? Am I mistaken, or did these things really go down in value? I'm sure a lot of you guys probably have tons of these things lying around.

I have a ton of them. I don't really worry about their value, they're sitting in a box somewhere. If they do turn out high priced, then good deal. If they don't,, at least I had fun buying them when I was little.

I bought all of mine from about 1988-1993, some of them were valuable then, but I'm not finding any of them to be worth more than 3 dollars now.

I have a bunch of cards from the 1950's-1960's. I priced them a few years back, and the best card I had was a mickey mantle tops 300. It was only worth a few hundred, now its not worth that much.

They are very valuable as coasters. Saves my nice furniture from the abominable wet cup ring.

There's your trouble. 1988 is about the time when people started really recognizing the collectablity of cards. Once that happened the market was flooded. Not only did the companies start producing more (making the cards less rare) but people started saving them (instead of treating them poorly or throwing them out like in the olden days).

The only cards that will really be worth anything from 1988 on are the limited edition series cards.

Of course. He hadn't intended on pitching that day, so it wan unintentional.

That's the only sports card that I'd love to have now. I'd love to have a Dock Ellis rookie card.....signed.

i think a lot of collectable items have gone down in price... old toys, baseball cards etc.. the thing is, when they go down in price, no one will want to collect them.. eventually the items will be even harder to find which in turn will make the demand higher and put the price up again... thats my theory. so save them.
