The casing layer is not supposed to be nutritious, it is to provide a stable cropping surface for the little dudes to form and to provide the mycelia with moisture, it can also provide its own humidity if placed in the right container, requiring no external humidification.

i'm no expert, but my impression is that putting nutrition in a casing layer does nothing except beg for contamination...
