Quit drinking pop/soda
    #4425767 - 07/19/05 11:53 PM (11 years, 4 months ago)

I think I might quit drinking pop.  On average I drink 6 cans of coke a day.  That's 840 calories and 234 grams of sugar.  I'm sure most of you know that's about 1/2 pound of sugar a day, now that can't be to healthy.  I usually don't drink anything but pop.  I can't really remember the last time I drank a glass of water, atleast not recently.  Are there going to be negative side effects to this, like the no caffienne part?  Will I get headaches from no caffienne or be more tired?  Thanks for your help

I just drink water, milk, and coffee.  I feel great, no cavities anymore in my teeth, no bloated feeling, and feel alot healthier  good luck !

If you are drinking that much a day, yes you will most likely have headaches and feel crappy for a few days. You might try cutting back gradually over several days to reduce the caffeine withdrawal.

I've never been a coffee drinker. It doesn't taste good to me.

Yeah, cutting back first is a good idea. I think I just like to have something to drink when sitting around watching tv and sitting at my computer. Pop is just so easy to grab and tastes so yummy, but I'm buying bottled water tomorrow and just going to refill them with filtered tap water.

Do it!!!!!

Its quite a powerful drug and causes all sorts of problems. Your body is only born with a certain amount of insulin.....once its used up (it gets used to break down sugars)...guess what....diabetes.

I also find soda doesn't quench my thirst at all.....meh

I used to drink insane amounts of soda every day (12+ cans).
I actually got "addicted" to it and went on soda binges ending up in weight gain and I noticed many negative effects (bad sleep, bad heartburn, lethargy...etc)
It never quenched my thirst, but somehow I always found it in my hand.
The best thing I have done recently for my health is buying a brita filter and drinking water. I have found that nothing quenches thirst like clean, filtered water. Caffeine is a diuretic, and paired with the high sugar content of Coke/Pepsi/Whatever...it is very dangerous to your health (naturally your thirst isn't quenched by the soda and you feel the need to crack open another can).

So..... minus 20 pounds later... not feeling lethargic and noticing a big improvement in my health I suggest you drink water! How could nature be wrong?

I used to drink 3 to 6 20oz bottles of soda a day. I felt crappy, no energy and I was seriously addicted to the caffiene and sugar(yes you can be addicted to sugar). I quit cold turkey and switched to juice and water. I was irritable, had severe headaches that pain killers could not stop, lost my sexual drive, and I was very tired and felt worn out all the time for a week. I feel so much better now. I still drink soda from time to time, but not like I used to. It's definitly worth quiting or severly limiting.

have any of you ever noticed when you stopped drinking soda, the cavities on your teeth stopped forming? I brushed, and went to the dentist every 3 weeks and I still got cavities from soda, now zero. ;]

Well I never had a problem with cavities in the first place. I have very resistant teeth. I guess I'm lucky.

My best advice is to find a juice you like (orange, pineapple, cranberry, cow) and drink the juice when you want a little flavor. If your just feeling thirsty keep a big thing of water by your computer.

Thanks for the advice everyone.  This is going to be day 1.  I'm only going to have 2 pops today.  44 ounce pops  j/k.  I'll be posting updates throughout the week on my results.  I'm sure it's not to interesting for you, but it should help me keep with the plan.

"On average I drink 6 cans of coke a day."

Dude that's crazy. I get a stomach ache and headache just from drinking one can of soda. That's why I don't drink it anymore. That stuff is garbage.

This is not accurate.  Your pancreas produces the insulin for your body as it is needed.  Diabetes is a result of your body producing an insufficient amount of insulin, or your cells developing a resistance to insulin.  Sometimes a combination of both.

Where would your body possibly store enough insulin to last you 100 years ?

I have found that my subconsious mood is somewhat dependent on how much water I drink. On days I drink pop or little water I am usually more bummed out or don't enjoy recreational drug use, but I usually drink water in great amounts

With that said you might run into the same problem I have, no desk space! My nightstand and computer desk are often too cluttered with water bottles and tall glasses

I agree. I honestly don't remember the last time I was able to finish a Coke or Pepsi; that stuff is fucking sick. I stopped touching soda completely about a year ago, and I just can't stand the shit anymore.

Water, milk, soy milk, orange juice, and even coffee (in small amounts) are all MUCH better alternatives.

Here was my kitchen sink last week, note this is probably 2 weeks worth of cans.

For the last 3 days I've just been having 2 pops a day and drinking about 3 20oz bottles of water.

You could try Tea or diet coke or even NODOZ. Whatever keeps you up. And its good that your trying to quit or cutdown with that much sugar you could end up with diabeties when your older.
