Actually poeple can't talk enough about boiling for Rice based substrates. Though it should work for others. The noteable expection seems to be that grains and bird seed should be PC'ed. If you do boil make sure that the water doesn't overflow the jars. Keep the water level at about halfway up the jars. Also make it a gentle boil otherwise you'll get the overflowed jar syndrome. Another note, glass can crack so when you boil put a washcloth or similiar on the bottom of the pot so that the jars don't get too much direct heat. Try to keep a lid on the pot too when you do it all. Good Luck! :)

Most of the stuff to fix a PC (O-ring, vent plugs, etc.) are pretty cheap. Must have died a hard death. ;)

flower and vermiculite based substrates (Brown rice flower, Dark rye flower, etc) can be boiled with no problems. ANY and ALL grain based substrates must be P/C'd, not just because thats what everyone likes to say, but due to the thickness of the grains, they do not get hot enough in the center (when boiling) to kill off endospores. Thats why you need a P/C capable of 15 psi.

rice flower sounds fun.. i think you meant flour... my wookie friend has plenty of success sterilizing brown rice grain/verm in microwave or oven... btw, how hot does it gets inside a PC???
