okay, so heres the deal, there is this big red maple, or oak, i forget which, that grows next to this house Im building. It has very low branches and cuts out almost all light, a great place for mushrooms to grow, and sure enough there are. So as i always do when i see any muchroom, i sqush it to see if it will bruise blue, and again sure enough, these did! Im not sure if that means they are okay to eat or not, because they are a red caped(with white crack likes going over it that make it look nicely textured) and have yellow gills, this red and yellow combo tell me bad news, but the blueing has me very interested, anyone out there able to identify these for me? PS i dont plan to consume any of these(i only eat the ones i grow), im just courious as to what they are.

those are a species of Boletus, it is a very large genus with no actives, some edibles, and some poisonous.

Proceed with caution, and happy hunting!

thanks a bunch on such a quick responce, any idea as to why it bruises blue if there are no actives? im probably making a common mistake thinking its the hallucinigenic compounds that make the blue, heh.

I can't positively id a bolete for you, there are some bolete experts here, you will need to note the time it takes to blue.
I chimed in to say, I have a bolete spot that looks identical to that one, they grow in the moss just like that. Cool pic
