i wanted to ask if blue foot psilocybe had any poisonous look alikes and if they could grow in the ground instead of strictly on mulch or stumps.

If you are talking about P. Stunzii in the Pacific NW, then yes, they can grow in lawns as well as bark mulch. And yes they can look a little like Galerina A. which is a nasty deadly little bugger. In fact, back in the 1970s while living in Olympia, WA I found P. Stunzii growing side by side with Galerina A. If you are not talking about P Stunzii then disregaurd everything I've said.

If you are talking about P. caerulipes in the Southeast US, then yes, they can grow in lawns as well as bark mulch. And yes they can look like several different species that are potentially dangerous, some possibly deadly. The easiest way to tell the difference is first to look at gill color. brown to purplish brown may be Psilocybe, blue staining will confirm this. Rusty to white gill is a sign of inactivity and possible toxicity. Some deadly Galerina stain black, so be sure of color changes and dont get the "wishful thinking syndrome".

Dear Blue_Foot,

It would definitely be more appreciated if you would state the genus and species, i.e. Psilocybe Stunzii, Psilocybe Caerulipes, or even just put Ps. in front of the species name, and almost all people will know that you mean Psilocybe.

The only mushroom, I have seen in a book, which stated the nickname as "bluefoot" is Ps. Montana, which contains such Mine Oot amounts of active chemicals, that it is considered 'inactive'.

Ps. Stunzii is often refered to as "blue ringer", because the area around the veil remnant is almost always blue, due to the oxidation of psilocin, when the veil breaks. (So says Mushroom John)

I don't know if Ps. Caerulipes has a nickname or not. I just don't know anything about it.

In the end, there are just too many mushrooms that could be and are called "bluefoot".

I would guess that you are asking about Ps. Montana, because that's the "bluefoot" I know. Meanwhile, someone else might think that you mean Ps. Picklepoopii or whatever. There are just too many shrooms, to be asking about this mysterious bluefoot.

So, it is wise to ask:

"Does Ps. "Bluefoot" Picklepoopionstinkii grown on grass, dude, or, like, does it only grow on that wood stuff, maaannnn."

I have heard of that being called that as well, so you are not alone. When he said blue foot I first thought of P. Caerulipes.
