This should be A. virosa, one of three or four "destroying angels." It has a non-striated cap, a saclike volva, annulus and scaly stipe.




I ate my lunch out on the hillside after handling this thing--made me feel a little weird.
Monkeys have been using the hiking trail as their highway. Guess it beats the snakes and wild boars in the deep woods. This character sat there blocking my progress until he started walking toward me! Passed me as if he didn't see me.

It looks like one of the Destroying Angel species. As they've been studied it seems the Asian species end up being different than the European species, so it will likely end up being something other than the ones in our books. Of course, it will be just as deadly to eat.
