Miracle-Gro
    #4421139 - 07/18/05 09:47 PM (18 years, 8 months ago)

I had a stalled 3rd flush on my first grow kit. I put a few drops of Stern's Miracle Gro (safe for food plants, available in any garden store). My God!!! The 3rd flush seemed to grow as I watched. I got less mushrooms(common on 3rd flush?), but man, were they big 'uns. I was just wondering if anyone else has tried this.

I would think Miracle-Gro would damage the mycelium because of the salts in it.

They're MUSHROOMS man, not plants. They grow different, and require different sources of nutrition.

You may be right but it didn't seem to have an adverse effect on my shrooms size or potency.

Yea, in fact if you grow plants and especially people who over fertilize you can even see salts from the fertilizer form on the surface of the soil. No plant fertilizers don't work in this situation man, but hay at least your thinking!
Take care

I can see the salts as they form a crust around the pour spout. I thought I'd try it since it was a 3rd flush. Don't know if I'd try it on a 1st flush. Thanks man.

Yeah, but you said you got less of them. If it was a lot less than the previous flushes, the cause is most likely due to the mycelium being damaged by salt deposits. Although, fruits do diminish in number with each successive flush.

I think it's probably not a good idea to mess with plant fertilzers trying to increase the potency or size of your harvest. If you want better yeilds try growing on grains, straw, compost or manure.

Yea but a casing is always going to produce more (if done right of course) then a cake by its self, but ya, don't mess with plant fertilizers,
Take care!

I disagree.

Me having experience with growing pot know the nature of Miracle-Gro is high nitrogen.
And from discovering that water molds or just the mycelium of a type fungus would show up looking like a loogy in the 2 liter pop bottles with the water mix of MG. So yeah its a problem when trying to keep molds and fungi out of your plant food.
