Living in the NOW?
    #4419795 - 07/18/05 06:11 PM (11 years, 4 months ago)

What exactly does this mean? It's mentioned MANY times in the electric kool-aid acid test, and I have heard a lot of people on here talking about it.

it means let go of the past and stop worrying about the future... concentrate on whatever you are doing right here, right now

Eliminate words.
Because the past and future only exist in our collective imaginations.
No words = Only here and now

RIGHT NOW is the only time you have

There is only the present

Learn from the past, but don't dwell on it
Look forward to creating the futue, but again.. don't dwell

Because the only time you have is RIGHT NOW

Embrace the now.

Remember the past to create the future through the now

RIGHT NOW

Living in the now

This has been a right now production by Astral Enterprises

"You dont have to have that urge, that desire
that unfulfilled thing.
Just let it be, Just be.
Be more? Whats holding you back? Your thoughts, huh?
You've got to give them up
Just ego planning.

What are you doing? Planning for the future?
Well, its all right now. But later?...Forget it baby, thats later.
Now is now, are you going to be here or not.
Its as simple as that!"

I've lived in the now for quite sometime.

now I'm 24, facing the harsh facts: I can't keep living month to month forever. Eventually, I need to get health insurance and stop throwing my money away on rent. That means making plans for the future that involve a real job and home ownership.

otherwise I'm gonna die a homeless, penniless addict when I finally slip and fall off the treadmill...

seriously, it is good to think about the future sometimes... plan ahead or get left behind.

There are many different ways to explain the concept of "the now"  there's a label for it because we as humans tend to have our thoughts dwell on the past or the future instead of concentrating on the moment. If you've ever tripped you might get an idea that time is an illusion. A lot of us are revealed to this illusion because often our mind is being bogged down down by thoughts of "what the future could be" or "what happened in the past."  While once in a while it's good to think about the future and plan ahead, and to learn from your mistakes in the past, we often think about them too much.

It's great to concentrate on the "eternal now moment" as some call it because it's where peace of mind can exist. This is the essence of meditation, using your mind to focus, instead of your mind using you to think. It's the thousands of voices in your head that keeps your mind occupied and you lose clairity. Can you stop thinking anytime you want to?  if you cant (like most of us) then the mind is using you, rather than you, the tool has taken over.

so what is this coming down to?  what is this peace of mind and what does it have to deal with the eternal now moment?  That peace of mind is you!  that is your essence, what you are, the space beneathe the words, or as some like to call it "the silence"

We as humans are always looking for something else to define ourselves when we are everything here.  We use the now moment as a means to an end, and thus totally overlook everything we are....now.   :sun:

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.---senior doobie
