Middle TN cubes?
    #4419536 - 07/18/05 04:57 PM (11 years, 4 months ago)

Hello,

I have been collecting them for years in SC but have recently moved to Middle TN north of Nashville and wondered if anyone has had success with actives in this vicinity. This is a great site and cheers to however created it. I have been studying it for a whilw now, it is such a wealth of knowledge. Also in the weilii side of things. Do you think it is possible for them this far north? we have all but one of the critria in my area, sweet gums, red clay, bermuda lawns, just no pines, or very little if any. are pines the key, or is it the soil?

Thanks to all.

You could find all the answers to your question by searching the site...but Ill help you out. First, you will not find weilii in any part of Tennesse. Not even in the most northern parts of Georgia will you find weilii. So Tennesee is out of the question. There are 5 actives that grow in TN:

Psilocybe cubensis(this is what you want to look for)
Psilocybe caerulipes
Gymnopilus aeruginosus
Gymnopilus luteofolius
Panaeolus Subbalteatus (most likely grows in TN...they grow everywhere else)

I was just reflecting on how much it must suck to only be able to find shrooms growing from poopy and whatnot.

Thats pretty much what my research has said. I'd just like to hear some 1st hand success from some middle TN folks. as for the weilii, it says its been taken before in Chattanooga, but there are also more pines around there so I wonder if thats the distingishing characteristic of their habitat.

Regardless of the distinguishing factor of the habitat, it doesn't mean you'll find weilli, their basically around the Atlanta area anyway. Their are beaches in Maine but that doesn't mean you'll find cubes near their like Florida (yea i know cubes don't grow in sand, it's an example). Theirs alot that goes into mycological development and just having the habitat isn't everything. That said, yea once you get experienced and know what you're looking for, I'm sure you'll make some nice finds.
Good luck!

i love in SE TN, and it's shit luck finding cubes here. I've only found a few growing wild... so I think it's just hit or miss or I'm missing out on the good fields.

I've searched and searched for weilli around chattanooga, I guess I should start looking again... especially in the parks and bermuda around the city.
