More pins with verm side up.

I have always seen pictures of cakes with the verm side down. So that's just what I have always done. However, the majority of pins always seem to start on the very bottom of the cake (the verm side). I have read some posts where people asked which side to place cakes on and most of the time they were told it doesn't matter.

I just wanted to let people know that I have seen really good results placing them cake verm side UP. Almost twice as many pins, thicker stems and faster pinning. Not sure if this is just something that magically happens for me... but it's worth a try.

Well do you roll the cake and double end case it?

I do. Not sure why it is that I get better pins on one side. This is my first grow, so I may be doing something weird.

It is probably just because the mycelium has grown up into the verm layer while colonizing, its already got the knitting into the casing layer, which is great for pinning, much better then the flat surface of the cake. I imagine this would be less of a factor for some people depending on how they did things (when things were exposed to light, if they scrape off the whole verm layer, some of it, none of it, how much verm was applied everywhere, ect) so some may not notice a difference. I seem to hear either, it doesnt matter, or verm side up...never people saying verm side down works better (if they roll and double end case)..
